People who think the deal died over some solar panels are missing the obvious.
The new deal is going to be split exactly like the old deal, but will reflect the new higher, post-covid cost. And the flames will accept some $10m-$20m in clown climate items to make the deal more palatable from a political perspective.

I'm assuming the above. Province comes to table to eat city's extra cost vs pre-covid deal. City + province = 50%. CSEC = 50%

Hopefully this is a start of several bits of good news for the franchise.

I'd bet a sizeable amount of money that this is not happening.

Looking forward to the announcement. I am optimistic, Calgary needs an appropriate Event Centre. My last 2 concerts have been in Edmonton and Vancouver, spending the entire weekends on "mini vacations". I would much rather stay in Calgary for these events and leave my vacation time and money for more substantial travel. Plus having taken in a Montreal Canadiens game in March at the Bell Centre, it was an awesome viewing experience... fan experience should be a priority.

There’s no way the city or CSEC lets Smith in there unless there’s provincial support of the project.
It makes by far the most sense to mostly restart this from where it was 16 months ago. Keep the site and design, etc.

It's too meant to be, so it won't happen because we can't have nice things.

West Village was always an empty threat. There's zero chance it would have gone ahead.

The announcement is coming live from the east village so that is obviously where it will be once again.

I’m going to guess:
Province pays for portion of cost that’s above what the original plan was budgeted for 18 months ago.
Roughly:
City $300M
CSEC $300M
Province $100-150M

In a twist the city and province will now be paying 100% of the arena costs!
