The real rankings are house prices. If there's a demand for an area, house prices will reflect that.

I live in Sundance and don't get the low rating. Private lake, short walk to fish creek, lots of schools (when we moved in it had some ranked in top 10 in Calgary). Houses aren't ridiculously close and the alley ways add some additional privacy. is a Easy to get in and out of (although the construction at 162nd is a pain now). My only beef is it isn't really walking distance to a grocery store (have to cross Macleod and go to Shawnessy).
Seems really random that it was ranked that low.

Windsor Park....such a mixed bag, super nice houses and mansions on one side. Used needle's on the sidewalks, addicts in the alley, super aggressive panhandlers that I see every single day on my walk to work. People even panhandle inside Chinook Center now.

That's my impression, too.
Plus the houses are good value. Way more house for the money versus Bonavista as a comparable. Sundance is nicer than Midnapore, too, right?

Oh noes, out of the top 10. Gonna pour a latte out for Sunnyside. It's all downhill from here.
Clearly those Hillhurstians are funneling money to Avenue to stay in the top 10.

I have a lot of family in Sundance and I've always loved it there. Pretty good lake, way better than sicome which is still at least close, nice ridge, lots of parks
I think Sundance is better than #9 Riverbend in every way other than distance to the core. They have Carburn park but its trashy lately, I'd take the walk to Fish Creek

Avenue magazine. I'll make sure I don't waste my time reading it.

Surprised no one has mentioned Marlborough at 34th. Crime really doesn't matter to Avenue...

I did. You may have missed it because I called it by its proper name, Marlem.

There has been a lot of re-development and some infill action in Brentwood which is greatly improving the look and feel of Brentwood. Dalhousie is just an old, run down neighbourhood.

To be fair Sliver has done some of his best work in the Best Neighbourhood threads over the years.
Subjectively, I think it is his best work.

I know it is popular in calgary to live in a brand new house way on the outskirts but these neighborhoods have a ton of value.
Just because most of the houses were built in the 60s doesn't make the neighborhoods dumps. Otherwise, honestly, I'm not sure we have the same definition of run down.
Both are close to shopping centres, malls, the U of C, schools, transit, have a ton of trees, low crime rates and most of your neighbors will be 75 years old and spend their entire day keeping their grass green and their gardens looking nice. You'll also live on a giant plot of land where your kids can play in your relatively quiet neighborhood. Oh and both have a ton of new development happening.
I'd kill to live in either neighborhood. I mean that. I'm gonna pull a Lex Luthor and befriend an old widow so that I can inherit her $700k house.

This is an example of going too far for viral exposure. It worked well for a few years so some dummy in marketing was like "Ohh haha, the worse the list is the more people engage online!!".
Nope, you make it a somewhat decent, cohesive list with a few headscratchers and you'll get people talking. You keep going each year to the point where nothing even makes sense, and you'll get what you get - Everyone basically laughing at it's absurdity, followed by no one bothering to look next year.

I absolutely agree. I live in Varsity and before purchasing our home we looked at a lot of homes in Brentwood and Charleswood. I love the area, the large lots, the trees and parks and the older homes. Dalhousie near appealed to me. I kept it off of our list of neighbourhoods when shopping because I just didn't find it as nice as the other nearby communities.

I don't believe anyone actually sat down and put thought into this because if they did it would look a lot different. When I look at the randomness of the list it's pretty obvious that the neighborhoods were picked out of a hat. Have any of the people involved in the list lived or worked in Bowness? My wife is a teacher who's taught in several schools across the city and Bowness is the top of the list for kids sent to school with no lunch, child abuse, drugs, etc. As well I have a friend that lives there and sure the little areas where rich people have tied up are nice but the rest is pretty ghetto. Bowness wouldn't be a top 25 community in Swift Current or Edmonton let alone Calgary.

74 for canyon meadows that seems really mind boggling.Easy access to downtown.ctrain stop good part of fish creek park.I guess the downsides or lack of interest are because of no real shopping in the community or new houses being built and real place to go hang out on a Friday I know young people like disco music these days.
