http://fivethirtyeight.com/?s=Uber

Fivethirtyeight has been doing a bunch of analysis on the New York uber info that the city collects. Interesting reading but no real conclusions yet

This might be the most interesting one

It is the subsidized price. Drivers don't choose rates, Uber chooses them.

Took a cab yesterday from the airport to my house in central SW. The driver was extremely friendly, the car was clean and the ride was fast.

Unfortunately it was $70 (with a 15% tip). But seems to me the taxi drivers have been more friendly and providing better service over the past month or so, I wonder why

I ordered an Uber for the first time yesterday (I have taken them before but never actually used the app). Wow I was floored with how great it is.

There is not a single reason to take a cab anymore as long as your phone isn't dead.

I've also noticed it's much easier to get a cab downtown at 1:30 am. Seems to be many more on the road during those hours. Uber is making this corrupt industry service the people or lose market share. Amazing how that works.......

great! I was going take my friend out for a birthday dinner next week and thought of trying Uber

Can Uber take cash? (My credit card has been frozen while they deal with a fraudulent charge)
Can uber supply a wheelchair accessible vehicle? (friend has electric wheelchair)

Not sure about accessibility, but they do not take cash.

I was already sold on the idea of Uber over any local taxi company, and then I saw a commercial yesterday for #TAXI, and I was reminded even more so why I hate cabs and will embrace Uber moving forward. $2.50 service charge to sit on hold for 60 minutes while you're at "the front of the line" in the queue??

What a freaking joke #TAXI is.

Haha, Uber is going to start offering handicap accessible services in NYC? The more bespoke their service becomes, the more they will end up being like a taxi service. What a ridiculous company.

I don't think #Taxi is run by the taxi companies. I could be wrong.

My biggest gripe is, you get disconnected from #TAXI and you have to redial which costs you another $2.50.

With the apps coming out though, hopefully this will eliminate the need for it.

I'm not sure if it is either, but my gear grinder was more so about being placed to the front of the line, then still sitting on hold for an hour versus a 5 minute wait on a simple smartphone app.

edit- and then getting charged for it!!
