And yeah the new Weekend Update guy was definitely nervous. He still had a decent delivery. And Cecily was even more of a wreck her first time out.

I was never really a fan of Cecily in either skits or Weekend Update but she has really grown on me in recent episodes. With so many crucial members leaving the show she is probably one of the best cast members now. I expect her to have to carry the show into the future.

Vanessa Bayer is a favorite of mine but I find they don't use her effectively in skits.

I hope SNL can find some great characters in the immediate future and build the show up to great levels again.

Even if you're right, I'm not sure that's a compliment to Seth or proof of the show's alleged heights during his tenure.

'SNL' Scorecard: Did Lena Dunham's Show Live Up To The Hype?

The hype that surrounds the announcement of an interesting “SNL” host like Lena Dunham is always odd. Usually the extra noise will come from the fans of that host, as opposed to people who watch “SNL” on a weekly basis. And then the show starts and … well, there’s Lena Dunham dressed as a teenager for a sketch like any other host would be doing. And Dunham was fine as a host – some of her sketches were funny, some weren’t; like pretty much any other show – though I suspect that her performance will be maddeningly over-analyzed because it’s Lena Dunham and that kind of thing seems to happen to her. (Oh, see, Nikki Finke has already done just that, tweeting, “One of the worst hosts of one of worst SNL shows.” I mean, that’s insanity.) Anyway, let's take a look at this week's Scorecard, shall we?

Sketch of the Night
”Ohh Child” (Killam, Thompson, Strong, Dunham, Wheelan) First of all, it really is impossible to get a good car sing-along going when GPS is constantly interrupting the song. I’m not always a fan of the tacked-on sketch ending that has nothing to do with the rest of the sketch – in this case, the joke of Dunham constantly being interrupted by the GPS turns into the fact that that the foursome is going to kill Brooks Wheelan. But, whatever, this one worked.

I thought it was decent. For some reason that skit with Jon Hamm had me cracking up. The opener with Liam Neeson was solid, as was the Adam and Eve Skit. The rest was kinda meh. Also, Taran Killam's impression of Matthew McConaughey was spot on lol.

Weird, I thought that was one of my favorite episodes of the year. I thought Lena was an awesome host! The National were fantastic as well.

The car sketch, the Scandal skit and the tennager/Jon Hamm Skit were all hilarious. Mconaughey impersonation was great too.

Did not like the National.

I thought she did a good job, but a lot of the characters she played seemed to be very similar, the odd ball, perky, oblivious type girl. They just varied in age.

I liked the car sketch, but I agree with the point that the videos don't always have to have some weird ending that doesn't really relate to the overall sketch. You can always see it coming. I just assumed this one was going to end with something weird like them killing someone, or driving off a cliff or something else.

Taryn's impressions killed. When he did Harrison Ford, I almost choked on my happiness. It was fantastic.

I liked the Scandal skit. I only watched the first season, but it was pretty spot on. Everyone had some insane connection in a high up place that was able to provide information with lightning speed. I thought it was well done.

I'd say it was average. Adam and Eve was pretty good, especially the 'reviews'. The car sketch was good, and I agree with Teh Bangwagoner on Taram doing McConaughey. That may have been my favorite part.

Oh I really liked the last sketch, with the guys planning the outing to see Will Smith.

Anna Kendrick (Pitch Perfect) will make her SNL debut April 5 with musical guest Pharrell, while Seth Rogen (This Is the End)will return for a third round of hosting April 12 with musical guest Ed Sheeran.

As previously reported, Louis C.K. will host the March 29 episode with Sam Smith as his musical guest.

I honestly didn't think Louis CK would be back. It just didn't seem to suit him and he didn't appear to take it very seriously, which made for a pretty bland show.

But I guess ratings are ratings and he'll draw them.

Wow, that could have been the worst SNL episode ever. Not even Louis could save the writing core who were either on holiday this week or totally devoid of any ideas. I am at a loss as to how they couldn't come up with some better material. Even on a cold-read almost all of those skits would have been clearly unfunny.

The exceptions were the pre-recorded skits, 'Dyke and Fats' and 'Chris Fitzpatrick for President'. Those were really well done, especially the latter.
