I like that Nurse being a blockhead wedging Kesler against Talbot is what allows the goal to stand. He has to be one of the lowest IQ d-men in the league.
I'd say the Oilers got screwed because of the initial Perry contact to move Talbot's pad (these days that wouldn't count) but thems the breaks. The Oilers get so many favors on average that they need to get burned like that more often IMO.
So in this week of 5 games in 8 days, with travel, for the Flames, and the post above that indicates the Oilers haven't had a B2B yet, and the HNIC a couple of weeks ago when every team playing was on a B2B (the Oilers had the night off), I was wondering just WTF is going on. Is the scheduler from Edmonton? Is he/she a Greaser fan? Asking for a friend.

Tonight will be our fourth back to back so far but if I've read correctly we only have two more the rest of the year. @ FLA/CAR in March and @ LA/ANA in April.

1. Bettman is on a leash tied to Katz' ####.
2. The league, historically, will basically break any of it's own rules, norms or practices to favor a league superstar. This is basically the only unbreakable tenant in the NHL's history. McDavid is the current darling (though I think that's fading as Bedard looks like dynamite.)
3. The oilers failing after the city shelled out to build the club a new arena with public money, and the league bent over backwards to ensure generational level talent was made available is a bad storyline for the league. The oilers are ultimately a show pony for the league leadership: Look what can happen for your club's value if you can bend over the tax payers AND play the draft game over and over again!! <-- this sales pitch doesnt work when the resulting team is still historically bad. So the league has to fix this somehow.
the league bent over backwards to ensure generational level talent was made available
This is the opposite of the truth. The league changed the lottery rules for the explicit purpose of making sure the Oilers would not get another #1 overall pick. Then the Oilers fluked into one anyway, and it happened to be the McDavid pick. Nobody at league HQ was happy that happened. Their reaction reminded me of Wile E. Coyote's face just before the dynamite goes off.

Connor McDavid

- personality of cardboard
- playing in frozen no-good tundra land
- has never come close to winning a Stanley Cup and likely never will
