In Stone Age on iOS, interface design takes center stage. Everything about the game has been tailored in an intelligent way for the iPhone screen. Some comparisons will be made to Caylus (which I would see as positive), and while it does share the visual style and symbology issues, Stone Age is much less literal. The game has an impressive feature set with a tutorial for new players, AI ranging from the very easy to the insane, and async online multiplayer. I must say that Stone Age async is not as a great a fit as some other title (because of the quick turn structure), but it will be a welcome feature by fans. Overall Stone Age is one of the best titles I have played all year and a must have for strategy fans.

Forbidden Island is a high quality adaptation of a very popular cooperative board game. The app does well at capturing the thematic essence of the game and even increasing it. The interface is intuitive and really nice to use, though it may require a little learning for some players. It would be great to see a high score system in the future to increase the replayability solo. The game is great to play pass and play with family or using airplay. It knows its audience and is made for them.

Take forever to move, huh! Seriously, I'm sure that's not it. Maybe you're too good.
My mother-in-law used to take so long to move that I stopped playing with her. I could almost take a nap or go do my grocery shopping while she devised her next move.

I bet Rathji memorized a ton of ridiculous two letter words that no one ever uses.

Just bought Power Grid. It's an older economic type game. I liked it but I don't think it deserved the #7 ranking on boardgamegeek.com. Played it with 2 and 3 players. I think it would be best best with 4 or 5 players. It's not a complicated game but if you find doing a lot of basic math annoying/hard you might not like it.

Not memorized, but can recognize them pretty easily. Qi seems to be a fairly common game breaker. Placed properly, it nets between 22 and 66 points.
The other thing that really helps is challanges and that is the part where they become upset.
The only other option is holding back, and I have a really hard time with that unless my kids are involved.

I am the opposite. I have banned my family from playing Scrabble with me, because it's no fun without a challenge.

We did a big Game of Thrones day at my brother's house in January. The wives even cooked up some very interesting meals from the Feast of Thrones Cookbook. Great fun.

Bought "Lords of Waterdeep" and "Pandemic!" for this weekend to play at the cottage with the wife and another couple. The farthest we have gone is Catan, but enjoyed by all.
I am a bit worried the D&D them on LOW will make acceptance a challenge.

Unless they have some kind of phobia, should be fine.

It'll be fine. The theme is painted on and easy to ignore.

Eclipse Submitted to Apple
We just received word from developer Big Daddy's Creations that the long-awaited port of Eclipse has been submitted to Apple!
So, now the comments can be filled with folks asking when it will be released. Turn around times right now are about a week or so. That means that by the end of next week we'll all be playing Eclipse on our iPads. We'll let you know if we hear of a more specific release date in the interim.

So my reviews of Lords of Waterdeep and Pandemic:
- LoW was about a 6/10. Likely needs to be played again, but was quite finicky with all the small little parts. While we were all learning, there wasnt much interaction and everything felt more like a chore. This may be a sign we are not into resource management board games (which are usually times for beers and loud conversation/arguments/pleading/salesmanship).
- Pandemic was awesome. First time playing a coop game, and really look forward to the next time. We lost, and didnt care.

How do you deal with one player telling everyone else what to do?
