Hah, I voted for the Liberals and I'm nowhere near the most liberal person in this thread. It's pretty clear that there are almost no posters in this thread, me included, who'd support the Republicans even if they were led by the most moderate voices in the party. Easy way to find out: did anyone here back Romney in 2012? I sure didn't.

This is a fair description of my dreams. Unfortunately, they're just that. I really think the best case scenario is:
1. His approval rating goes so far into the toilet (which notwithstanding current trends there's nothing resembling a guarantee they'll stay as low as they are much less go further);
2. In 2 years that the Dems win back both houses (which, given the obstacles facing that project, seems far fetched even if Trump's approval rating is in the toilet - though the senate at least would be achievable);
3. The democrats effectively prosecute every case of misfeasance in office, incompetence and corruption that plague the White House, while maintaining a focus on the truly important issues rather than getting buried by Trump's cavalcade of bull#### non-stories and deliberate generation of outrage (which seems downright unlikely as the party appears to be pretty politically incompetent and totally off track in their priorities);
4. He loses in 2020 to a centrist Democrat (which given current trends it's entirely possible will no longer exist in any prominent way in the party by 2020).
That's a lot of ifs and hopes. It's at least possible...
