That's really good to hear. Yeah I went to Tom Baker a couple of times during my trips to Calgary and I thought the staff was fantastic....the only thing that had me worried is that it seems if you need a test or appointment that you have to wait a while? I guess if its urgent they will help you right away. I probably just worry too much, but this is about my dad and I wnat to make sure he gets the best care possible. I am glad to hear that Tom Baker is a good place though....

first off, my apologies for not wishing your dad the best in my earlier post.

now down to business. I'd keep looking around. My recollection (and it's been 5 or 6 years) is that there were more options in the market than just Invocare. Now Invocare was a good namebrand, but there are others out there.

Hell, I swear I remember a chair that would recline and people could sleep in it. Try calling up one of the independant stores and speak to the owner or operator and see if they can think of something. The store I worked for has long since merged with another.

Also, consider Lazy Boy or Sleep Country to see if there is a product that they make.

You will have to buy something though. You won`t be able to rent it

try contacting these guys and see where they can point you to...

Tom Baker does amazing work even though its understaffed and over booked right now. My Aunt went there after developing very aggressive lung cancer and they did everything humanly possible and made sure that she was comfortable and understood what they were doing, why and what the long term benefits were. Even after she decided to stop treatment, the doctors have been working hard to make sure that she's comfortable.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who helped. I flew into Calgary yesterday (it's not as warm as I thought it would be in August)...and my brother had ordered a bed for my dad which will be delivered on Tuesday So no more sleepless nights for him.

Thanks everyone..you have all been so helpful.

im back in san jose after having spent a week with my parents and brother in calgary.

the weather in cowtown was beautiful it's a very nice city. i spent the majority of my time in Tuscany where my folks live...and also went to the mall with my brother and the Foothills Hospital with my parents.

It was sad to see my dad can't eat as much as he used to and its hard to see him in pain, but Im confident he will survive this disease as he is a trooper.

Just wanted to say thanks again to everyone for their help and please keep my dad in your prayers..he's a wonderful man with the kindest heart.

my mom had the same thing..throat and neck cancer and tongue cancer..to be honest..if he cant sleep comfortably they are not treating him well enough with pain relief..bottom line! don't let them tell you otherwise and force them to medicate him more at bedtime and to give him adivan as well, that is the ONLY thing that helped Mom, sorry to hear of his suffering, it was a terrible time for all of us, so just try to make sure he is comfortable and resting well! good luck to all of you..my mom suffered without food for months until they put a feeding tube in her stomach..i would go to the ends of the earth until they did this as well for your dad!
