Took a look at former Flames who are now playing in Europe. WARNING: obscure names coming

you might have already forgotten some of those ...
KHL
Nigel Dawes and
Dustin Boyd are both in their 6th season with Astana Barys in the KHL. Dawes is their top scorer (33 points in 32 games), Boyd seems to have missed most of the season with an injury. The goaltender on their team is
Henrik Karlsson (15-12-1, 2.57 GAA, .923% svs).
Roman Horak is in his 3rd season with Chekhov Vityaz now, although he's struggling a bit offensively this year (11 points in 34 games).
Tomi Maki is in 9th consecutive season with Jokerit Helsinki. His offensive numbers are pretty sad (he topped 8 goals only twice in 17 year career as a hockey player, but the longevity is there.
Derek Smith was in the AHL last year but is now back in Europe. He has 4 points in 20 KHL games for Zagreb Medvescak.
Staffan Kronwall has had a nice KHL career. He's in his 5th straight year with Lokomotiv Yaroslavl now (8 points in 30 games). Also playing in the KHL is
Clay Wilson (4 points in 25 games for Cherepovets Severstal).
Daniel Taylor has found a new KHL team in Novosibirsk (2-4-0, 2.60 GAA, .922% svs).
FINLAND/SWEDEN
After two years in the KHL,
Niklas Hagman is back in Finland. He has 6 points in 14 games for Karpat.
After an AHL year in Iowa,
Leland Irving went back to Finland this summer. He's playing for KooKoo Kouvola (awesome name btw) and he'a doing okay despite being on a bad team (2-3-5, 2.21 GAA, .910% svs).
Brett Carson is playing in Finland too. He has 7 points in 24 games for SaiPa.
Joni Ortio is the starting goaltender for Skelleftea and he is doing quite well (10-7-0, 2.19 GAA, .913%svs, 2 SO).
Joe Piskulas first European season has taken him to Sweden - he has 3 assists in 20 games for Leksands.
GERMANY/SWITZERLAND/AUSTRIA
Blair Jones,
Max Reinhart,
Corey Potter and
Mark Cundari are all in their first European season and they are all playing in Germany. Jones has 6 points in 11 DEL games for the Iserlohn Roosters, Reinhart and Potter have 7 and 6 points in 15 DEL games for the Cologne Sharks and Cundari has 6 points in 15 DEL games for the Augsburg Panthers. One of his teammates in Augsburg is
Ben Hanowski (10 points in 16 games).
David Wolf left Hamburg in the summer and is now playing for the Mannheim Eagles. He has 15 points and 83 PIM (lol) in 16 DEL games.
Richie Regehr is also still playing in Germany for Red Bull Munich. His offense has dried up a bit though - from 40 points to 18 last year, and this year he has 2 points in 9 games so far. On of his teammates there is
Jason Jaffray (12 points in 15 games).
Joey MacDonald is a backup goaltender for the Schwenningen Wild Wings in the German DEL. He's played 5 games this season (1-4-0, 1.72 GAA, .947% svs).
Roman Cervenka went to Switzerland this summer. He is playing for Fribourg-Gotteron right now and of course he's doing well offensively (7+14 in 19 games).
Jonas Hiller is playing for Biel and his stats are decent (2.57 and .918% in 23 games). Also back in Switzerland is
Raphael Diaz (13 points in 23 games for Zug).
Tim Ramholt is still playing in Switzerland. After playing for Davos and Zug, he now plays for Kloten (2 assists in 8 games). Also playing in Kloten is
Drew Shore and he's been lights out for them (17 goals and 6 assists in 25 games).
Jamie Lundmark is in his 5th season in Austria and still scoring well over here (21 points in 23 games this season).
David van der Gulik played in Germany and
Kyle Greentree in Austria last year, but it seems they are retired now.
Matt Pelech played in Germany last year and is now playing in Austria (9 points in 20 games).
Also playing in Austria are former Flames prospects/AHL players Brett Palin, Olivier Roy, Brian Connelly, Brett Olson, Dustin Sylvester, Tyler Spurgeon, Corey Locke, John Lammers and Jean-Philippe Lamoureux. Some AHL afficionados might remember a few of those
OTHER COUNTRIES
Jim Vandermeer is in his 2nd season with the Belfast Giants in the EIHL (6 points in 16 games). Also playing in Britain is
Guillaume Desbiens (7 points in 13 games for the Sheffield Steelers).
And last but not least ... not Europe though: after two years in Austria, former Flames prospect
Ben Walter is now playing in Japan. He has 23 points in 28 games for a team called Nippon Paper Cranes.
