You can't blame me for wanting that. I'd be ok if it happens during the summer too.

It's been beaten to death at this point, but until we see how the goalie equipment changes affect everyone, I'd rather not have Treliving go out and spend assets on a goalie, or sign one for more than a couple years. Especially not someone like Bishop.

The team must add draft picks or prospects imo. The list of NHL prospects in the pipeline is very underwhelming right now. The stud prospects like Bennett, Gaudreau and Monohan have graduated. The next tier that the Flames had high hopes for appear to be stumbling this season. Who knows what will become of them but in the meantime Calgary can do themselves a big favour by reloading.
Save the goalie solution for the offseason. I think things will look clearer then.

Flames pick up Gallagher/Skinner in a trade. I don't care what roster pieces it costs other than the core and future picks.
Hiller for Bobrovsky/Lehtonen/Hammond/Stalock. Make it happen somehow. Please.
Gaudreau - Monahan - Gallagher
Skinner - Bennett - Frolik
Forget everything else. We will roll just 2 lines.

It would be nice to see another Reto Berra for a 2nd type trade.

Stick with the plan from two summers ago. Treliving was adamant that the three year term for Raymond and Engelland was a key to signing those guys. So despite how bad they've been, don't panic and make things worse. If you can trade them contracts of similar term than fine. But don't take on dollars or term to get out of them. No doubt a more cost effective lower end of the roster is a must. But if the plan was to let that occur organically two summers ago. Stick with it. The rbuild was a 5 year project and this is year 3, despite year 2 being an unexpected surprise.

Grab another 1st from a bubble team that could wind up missing the playoffs.
Drafting twice in the 1st round this year and signing Reimer could turn this whole team around quick.
Watched Max Jones twice this weekend, and that kid is going to be a terror in the NHL.

Trade the obvious candidates and acquire a goalie (Reimer, Bernier, Bishop, Hutchinson). End up with a goalie and a net increase in picks/prospects.

I just hope Treliving realizes we are not close to being a playoff team and we go into full sell mode. One or more of Hudler, Jones, Colborne, Jooris, Russell, Smid and Wideman can go for picks and/or prospects. Hudler and Russell are probably the only guys worth anything.

Taking a while to get to 5000

Hypothetical question - you can get a 1st for Hudler at the deadline, or get a 2nd for Hudler & Wideman packaged together. You rid yourself of that last year of the Wideman deal, but miss out on a 1st. Do you do it?

Get 1st rounder for Hudler and 1st for Russell in seperate deals (could happen ya know )
Trade Hiller for a used washing machine
Try to get whatever for Stajan/Jones and whoever else, let couple guys come up and show us what they got.
Look to acquire solid goalie for a reasonable price.

Russell trade is number one in my books. Appears there is value there.
Hudler should provide a decent return as well.
I differ from some on the goalie situation. I don't think anything happens until summer/draft.

Interesting question. I definitely take the first for Hudler. This team wont be competing for a championship next year either so jettisoning Wideman a year early is not worth much. Plus, maybe he gets you something at next year's deadline.
Now the owners might like saving $5 million. To put your question another way, if the team could pay $5 million to move from the 2nd to the 1st round, would they do it? As a fan, I'm saying yes. But not many teams, if any, would be prepared to do that.

Pretty sure Washington is already all in and they don't need Hudler or Russell.
Plus, the Glencross deal probably left a sour taste in their mouths.
EDIT: Plus I don't think they have 1 dollar in cap space.

Honestly. I'm fine with the only vets on this team being Gio and Backlund (if 26 is a vet).
Trade everyone else over the age on 25 if you can. Get as many picks as possible. No one else would be difficult to replace besides Hudler, who could possibly garner a 1st or 2nd, which is worth it.
I'd actually be okay with trading Backlund and Gio too depending on who actually ends up coming and going but those two are the only ones over the age of 25 that I think are difficult to replace.

I hope the Flames acquire players not picks.
My dream is a Erat type deal.
We need some players who can make this team since we can't draft anyone outside of a top pick that can make the team!
