I just don't think it's a big deal. Men swear, trash talk and threaten each other when they play big boy sports. I get the league needs to protect it's family event - although guys don't get suspended for fight or slashing or displaying ACTUAL forms of violence.

Kadri could have said the EXACT same dialogue to Giordano without making the hand gesture and there wouldn't be a thread to discuss it.
I believe the League has had a few precedences set with it being a suspendable offence, which should at least lead to one game.

The funny part is if it ever actually came to anything, Gio would feed that punk his lunch.

Knuckle sandwiches.

Agreed. This is why I don't know he'd complain to the ref. Trying to draw a penalty I guess

@RogMillions:

Mark Giordano on Nazem Kadri's throat slash gesture. "It's pretty stupid" the league will deal with that added the Flames Captain

Kadri just claimed that he was "In and out of it" because of the hit.

Later in the interview comes out with more that he was frustrated and really mad (so a deviation from the "in and out of it" bit)

interview clip on 960

Claiming that Giordano's hit should be reviewed. Feels his head took the brunt of the hit.

Someone should team him how North South works

Best part was when he came after a Gio a little while later while Gio was skating up the boards, tried to line him up then Gio knocks him on ass again.

If that hit nets Gio any kind of punishment at all I'll definitely start watching less NHL games.

A suspension for a classless gesture is stupid.

Fine? Yeah that seems about right. You can yell at a playet and tell them they're dead and you're gonna kill them, but don't point your thumb at your neck and move it to the side. That's over the line! Is it classless? Yup. Dangerous? Hahahahahahaha

Gestures are different than conversation, it's pretty straightforward: there are kids watching and they can actually SEE the gestures.

Of course the league is going to punish them.

I say no because it would imply anyone takes Kadri seriously.

You mean the kids that hear them swear? Or the ones that watch them fight? Watch one player push another around? Come on. That's silly. Kane had three fights tonight, did any kids see that? Anyone been suspended when the audio picks up vulgar language? Or when a coach yells at a referee every second game?

Gimme a break. It was classless. So are lots of things

I dont care personally, but they always need to nip this kind of thing in the bud so we dont start getting other gestures in the game.

Or they could allow some of it. A throat slit but no miming of a dead person. Or when they score they can do two hip thrusts, but not three.

I don't understand it either, but it seems like this gesture has some sort of hockey history to it that I don't get. Aside from it being suspend able several times, does anyone have more background.

What if you point a finger and do the shooting gesture?

Disappointed in Gio???

You know kids watch the game right?

You know Kadri said you're ####ing dead right?

That's obviously suspendable, you can't even do that on ppv UFC let alone cable hockey.

Yeah, it's a crap thing to do. But does anyone think it's a serious threat? And like was said, I don't think they suspend players for actually saying that, just for the gesture.

I am sure he's gonna get a game, or at least a fine. I'm just wondering if there's some sort of history about the slashing gesture that makes it extra bad.
