Yeah, fans tend to get swept up in all the various discussions about draft eligible players without having seen the kids actually play more than a game or 2 most likely.
I maintain that all I want is for management to take a player that we will look back on as the right pick at the time. Just like to date, Monahan looks like absolutely the right pick from last year.

I believe that it wasn't the scouts pick when the Flames tried to prove they're smarter than everyone else.

The myth about there being a consensus top 4 and that Draisaitl belongs in the top 4 is getting tiresome.
For the record I believe there are only 4 publications claiming Draisaitl belongs in the top tier of this draft class; Central Scouting, Red Line Report, Craig Button and The Hockey News.
Everyone else considers him 2nd tier.
Really going by all the reports I have seen, there have been only 3 prospects this draft that have been considered top tier pretty much throughout all the scouting services; Bennett, Reinhart and Ekblad. Then it depends on who you ask whether Draisaitl, Dal Colle, Nylander etc belongs in the discussion with them.

Sabres GM Tim Murray also said it was a top 4 (Ekblad/Reinhart/Bennett/Draisaitl).

Only 7 more days. Then it will all be put to rest. And then the second guessing will begin. Well, as soon as FA frenzy is all sorted out.

Brad Treliving said there was a consensus top 5 and a week later said his top 5 is Ekblad, Reinhart, Bennett, Daraisaitl and Ritchie. Show me where anybody else thinks that is the consensus top 5.
GMs lie sometimes.

Those are some pretty significant publications listed. Which just proves the point that there is a consensus top 4.

IIRC, Dan Marr from Central Scouting said it was a top 4 and a half -- Bennett, Ekblad, Reinhart, Dal Colle and the half being Draisaitl depending on which Draisaitl shows up on a particular night. Central Scouting is the only service NHL teams take seriously.

I guess that depends on your definition of consensus...
If you want to say half the scouting world thinks a prospect is top tier then that is a consensus and the other half doesn't...

If 50% of scouts are saying he's top 4, and the other remaining 50% are adding their 2 cents with names like Nylander, or Ehlers, or Dal Colle, then those names take a smaller portion of the pie. The biggest portion going to Draisaitl.
Seeing as 'majority of opinion' is a definition of the word 'consensus,' then I would tend to lean to wards Draisaitl being the consensus top 4.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It really is a pointless argument to engage in, and this will all go away by next Friday anyways. I trust the new management and the scouting team to make the right decision for this club.

Than you can look at it this way. 98% think Ekblad is top three. 95% think Bennett is top three and 94% think Reinhart is top three with only 50% thinking Draisaitl is top four.

Draisaitl never enter the top 10 on any list until mid season rankings, iirc
