Exactly, we are working off a deficit that started years ago.

"Lots of curiosity from media about the rain in the forecast for Alberta and whether it will pull us out of drought. Short answer: No! Our “tanks” have been emptying for 3 years now - river, lake and groundwater levels are very low. We really need a lot more than 2 days of rain to “fill it up” again. That said - every little bit counts and the timing of this rain is great news for agriculture producers!"

You gotta take all the water you can before the Well runs dry!

I take it I'm the only pluviophile in here...immediately got changed into rain clothes after getting home from work yesterday and walked along the Bow for 2 hours, it was glorious.

I mean the wind can fata off, but the rain can stay (as long as it doesn't get torrential). Wish we got more rain days in this city.

The rain, while better than snow (at this time of year), blows.

Are the potholes worse than ever this year?

I'm legitimately from a third world country with better roads than Calgary. Kidnapping (including myself before we left), endless gang killings, rampant sexual assault... and still far better roads when I was there last year than this dump of a city. Embarrassing.

Looks like Calgary has been in a "treading water" pattern on road rehabilitation for a while based on this tweet from Evan Spencer.

https://twitter.com/user/status/1788659594589606110

In a perfect world, roads get repairs before cracks get bad, or a full depth replacement before the roads are so bad you can't patch them. In the long-term it's way cheaper than waiting for the road to fail. That doesn't happen often because proactive maintenance is generally considered a luxury by those who approve budgets. They probably think short term, and they probably don't tax residents enough to cover all the lane kilometers the city adds every year. That's how you get roads that get really bad and also cost a ton to fix.

Yeah we do have the perfect storm of inept management, horrific urban sprawl, and absurd weather swings. Recipe for disaster if you're a vehicle wheel.

You got kidnapped? Did you bore them with opinions on road design so they released you?

I'm kidding, of course. That sounds scary.

Don't remember much, was 2-years-old. They wanted ransom, ended up just leaving my brother and I somewhere. Cops got at least a couple of the guys a while later for grand theft and accessory to homicide or something, not sure they were even prosecuted on the kidnapping.

I'm glad the ring road is done, I'm glad they're spending half a bill to fix Deerfoot but man the rest of the roads are crumbling.

Back to weather for a moment... I recall that this is roughly the time fire smoke started to roll in last year so given the dire predictions of drought this summer if we can make it to the end of May with clear skies I call the month a win.
