Now instead of ~$350M from the initial deal the city is on the hook for $500M+.
I'll be honest spending $1.2B and not getting a new stadium out of it too kind of stings. I would love to see if they could get something similar to Juventus stadium that was posted for around $300M.
I've been to that stadium and it's not fancy but was super practical and was a good stadium.

It's very clear that this isn't what occurred.

I would agree that’s it’s a really good deal for him, just curious how much the other aspects of the deal play into the cost? Are CSEC paying for half of the arena portion with the city, and the city is covering the cost of the community arena, outdoor gathering spaces (assuming restaurants and shops here) etc…while the province pays the infrastructure items?

Next bit of bad news will likely be that CSEC will be totally in charge of design choice and thus this will be mediocre as hell.

Don't really think that detail matters. If that money didn't go to this it goes to something else.
If you're eluding to will taxes go up or not as a result of this... No, but yes they always will find a reason to, so whatever.

The city can't charge any property tax and the tickets go to CSEC is my understanding.

I suppose if it is functioning as multiple things for the community an argument can be made though.
Just get the shovels in dirt so we don't have to think about it so much. Let's swallow the pill and be over with it.
Had to get done.

I wonder if CSEC backed off of their other demands from the last deal. I seem to recall that they wanted pretty much all the revenue from every event in the building last time.
I am curious how Edmonton's entertainment district is working out. According to some people in Edmonton, the economic activity associated with it is already making up for the investment in public money. Smith seemed to suggest the same thing in her speech today. Is that an actual fact?

City is getting the green LRT, new roads, wider roads, investors (i.e. hotels etc)
Province is not investing in the arena, rather its infrastructure (roads,)
These infrastructure projects were going to occur either way.
To link them together is a great idea.

You mean Bean, not Beane, and that was not a fair question. Every second question was the exact same. After his disastrous GM press conference, I'm giving JB an A+ on that comment.

Question: If all things go according to plan, when do you expect the Flames start play in the new arena.
Bean: What!? Have you not been listening!? I know I'm new but come on. That questions been asked and answered.
Then Bean did this "Come At Me" look.
