You probably don't have kids either. Their supply of childrens programming is impressive. My son would have never watched "Godzilla: The Cartoon", "Spongebob Squarepants" or "Fairly Odd Parents" if it wasn't for Netflix.

Well, I do have kids, but they are 16+...
As for movies, I noticed that the US service had some newer movies. Ones just recently released on DVD/BD, where as the Canadian Netflix did not. Tangled and Hereafter for example showed up on the US service, while not on the Canadian side.

Those movies are not available for streaming though and are only for the mail out service so it is useless. A way of them tricking you into thinking they have new movies

Ah nice....nope, it did not say that. Don't like that kind of advertising at all. That would tick me off, although I would have tried the free month, not seen them there and cancelled so...

They have 'new-er' movies available to the US subscribers of streaming: UP, Grown Ups, etc. The major issue between US and Canada is that the same movie has 2 different distributers, one on either side of the border. They may be able to strike a deal with the US distributer, but hit their head against a wall with the Canadian distributer.
The good news is... Canada has Mad Men, the US doesn't. WE'RE NUMBER ONE!!!

Netflix is the kind of thing you sign up for, watch whatever TV series/movies they have that you want to watch and then cancel.
If you want exclusively new stuff, use Shaw Video on Demand (or whatever your cable provider has that is equiv)

Yeah, I cancelled my account last month. I went through spurts where I used it a lot in a week. And then three without watching anything.

I don't know if that's a fair assessment... My wife and I have watched most of what we "wanted" to watch. We're not moving on to "Things we'd like to try", giving them an episode or two, or 20 mins to hook us.
I don't think I would have rented "The Wackness" or "Gentlemen Bronco", but gave both a shot, because they were available, and now I'm giddy to watch "Exit Through The Gift Shop" (Would have watched it last night if it wasn't for Netflix going down). Things I "want" to watch will pop up. In the mean time, I'll keep looking for "Things I'd like to try", and still get my money's worth out of it.

You know why I like it? It's EIGHT DOLLARS a month. I spend more than that brushing my teeth, and if you don't, stop being a freegan hobo.

Maddie and I watched a bunch of "Ren and Stimpy" lately...
I laughed, she pooped her pants.

I would compare the "newer" movie selection to that of Movie Central on shaw which is $12/month on its own without all the other movies and TV shows. I think its worth it but I also have the US netflix and watch alot of TV series that I missed like Dexter.

Yeah, the online part of the us service isn't much better. Though we use it way more than I thought we would--kids shows on demand, and some decent movies and documentaries.
I went looking for community, but it isn't available online down here--only via dvd.

My old girlfriend and I broke up after seeing that movie last May. I was real upset..... about having spent money on seeing that movie in the theater.

This is a great point. I honestly can't understand the people that complain about Netflix and say they just get what they need and cancel. For $8 you get so much and even if you use it once a month it's worth it.

There is some good crap on there, but for some reason I'm really enjoying "Heros". Never thought much about this when it was on TV, but I'm plowing through season 1 now and it is relatively entertaining.
