There should be a McBoycott period implemented by the stripes in the final 4 minutes of games. He does his tumbleweed/hold act in the dying minutes almost nightly, because he knows the success rate is high. His embellishment has become progressively more egregious with time as a result also.

Officials need to shake their heads and skate away. Bonus points for giving it to him for being an embarrassing clown.

A major change the league has needed to implement for years is calling embellishment without calling an offsetting penalty. There is absolutely no reason for players to not embellish, especially late in a game when they know the worst case scenario is offsetting penalties. Set an example and call a dive on its own

Not only do they have almost a whole week off, they also haven't had any back-to-back games this season.

They've also lucked out by playing a lot of teams in the midst of losing streaks who aren't playing their best hockey (Anaheim, Vegas) or teams pulling complete no-shows like Washington.

IMO, that garbage should be treated the same as diving. The NHL should be fining and suspending players for it. It makes the league look bad, as well as the officials who get duped by it.

Having said that, the NHL hasn't really enforced the embellishment rules for quite some time either. I can't recall the last time there was actually supplemental discipline for it.

I don't recall them ever just giving out diving penalties. They'd usually take the diver and the other player out at the same time. Not much of a disincentive.

The Oilers traded their 2018 4th round pick for 9 games of Al Montoya, who would never subsequently play in the NHL again.

Three picks later, the Flames selected Martin Pospisil.

To answer my own question, the NHL actually handed out a fine for embellishing about a month ago. They could make a fortune if they just watched the Oilers.

NHL Rule 64 is designed to bring attention to and more seriously penalize players (and teams) who repeatedly dive and embellish in an attempt to draw penalties. Fines are assessed to players and head coaches on a graduated scale outlined below:

Citation #, Player Fine(s), * Head Coach Fine(s)
1, Warning, N/A
2, $2,000, N/A
3, $3,000, N/A
4, $4,000, N/A
5, $5,000, $2,000
6, $5,000, $3,000
7, $5,000, $4,000
8, $5,000, $5,000

For a league minimum player that is over half their salary for the game. For McDavid it's 3%, so I doubt he'd care even if they started fining him.

I also saw some upcoming eastern teams b2bs are going to start in Edmonton and finish in Calgary.

It's about time.

The No Goods have to keep their streak going. If they slip up the season can still get away from them quickly still being below .500.

They still have to win several consecutive times just to get back on even terms, and then pass all those teams in the way. It's much easier said than done. I wouldn't trust that group of duds not to get complacent again. A week off watching teams pull further ahead certainly doesn't help with momentum and likely adds pressure.

He’s the least likeable superstar I can remember, in any sport.
