Didn't know that. Interesting. Thanks.

As long as the team gets bigger and we don't trade Gaudreau I am fine with it.

It's not like he just slid in to the GM role and let it all happen.
Granted, I forgot about Pronger. But Niedermayer had three Cups already and wanted to play with his brother - so much so that he took less in Anaheim than the Devils offered. All Burke did was put his name on the contract on behalf of the team. It was Rob Niedermayer's existence in Anaheim that made it possible. Selanne, likewise, wanted to go back to where he was comfortable after the disaster that was chasing a cup in Denver in 03-04.

In truth though, we can argue how important Burke was or was not until the end of time. He has had some success, otherwise he wouldn't have had a 15-year career as GM of various teams. But he is not, and never has been, a top three GM in the NHL like so many once believed. I wouldn't even put him top ten. But people get dazzled by his arrogance and convince themselves he is better than he really is.

And this is all made worse by the fact that he isn't the GM. So we take that completely overrated track record and me-me-me personality and add what will be a serious case of meddling, and yeah, I'm not a fan.

I don't mind it at all. Not the biggest Feaster fan, so if someone like Burke is around to keep him in check all the better.

Definitely like Burke talking about having a blueprint and also liking big teams.

If Burke is not top 10 then what does Feaster rank, bottom 2?

As for the "people get dazzled by his arrogance" comment, could it be that posters that do not like his brash ways do not like to give him credit for the plenty of good things he has done?

I could care less that he is arrogant. I am not going to hang out with him, nor will he want to hang out with me. This sounds like the same reason that some did not mind the Dion return. It seemed many wanted Dion out of Calgary for being a "######" in the bars. If he is a "######" don't have a beer with him.

If someone had told me at the beginning of last season that Tortorella would be the Canucks coach and Burke would be with the Flames I would have been down right incredulous!

This is awesome news. Flames will once again have some relevance in the hockey world.

Burke's abrasiveness, self-promotion and, yes, competence, will certainly improve our image, and his well-known penchant for "truculent" hockey will certainly be reflected on the ice. I welcome the idea that Calgary might once again become a tough place to play. Plus, love him or hate him, Burke is entertaining and will be a welcome distraction once we are eliminated from playoff contention by early December.
As for Feaster, I am sure he will do whatever it takes to hold on to his last job, but I feel no sympathy for him. He slipped the knife into Dudley in TB and Darryl here, so I shall not shed a tear if/when he departs.
Excellent post! Fully agree.

basically echoes my thoughts.

Burke is an arrogant SOB, no question... but I do have some respect for his hockey acumen...

Flames New Org Chart Better explained using a Breaking Bad Analogy:

Murray Edwards = CEO of Madrigal

Ken King = Gus Fring

Rollie Cyr = Mike

Brian Burke = Heisinberg / Walter White

Jay Feaster = Jesse

John Weisbrod = Gale Boetticher

Troy Ward = Todd

Craig Conroy = Skinny Pete or Badger

Other Org

Darryl Sutter = Hector Salamanca

Last edited by 1stLand; 09-05-2013 at 01:34 PM. Reason: added Gale Boetticher as per suggestion

I wonder if Burke will have the authority to get rid of the Forever Flames garbage.

LOL Conroy is totally a talking tweeker.

Not sure if you got the order right for Burke and Feaster. I think Jesse survives and White dies at the end of this season. Wouldn't that make Burke, Jesse?
