Paolini took the momentum from her win over Leylah to defeat Sakkari in straight sets (Maria still struggling to find form and now has a new coach) and overnight received a walkover win over Rybakina. The Italian finds herself in the semi-finals facing Cirstea.

18 year old Jakub Mensik backs up a big win over Andy Murray with an even bigger win over Andrey Rublev just now in Doha. 6-4 7-6 and Czechia has another young and upcoming player to watch.

Speaking of young guys making statements, 17 year old Joao Fonseca of Brazil recorded a big win earlier this week on the clay in Rio over 19 year old Arthur Fils.

Fonseca has hype as the Next Next One. If Rune doesn't eventually figure it out, maybe this is the 3rd member of the New Big 3...

Yeah, already some saying he's the next Guga Kuerten, no pressure kid.

I watched the extended highlights. This kid looks very solid as he hits a heavy ball from both sides. Fils was on the run all match and really had no answer to the pace of the balls he was facing.

The TennisTV twitter account compiled their highlights into a little over three minute package below. When you're moving (i.e outhitting) Fils on a court, you're doing something pretty special.

Did you hear about the new indoor tennis center they are building up in Balzac? 5 indoor courts and the look is inspired by Laver Cup with a black court with white lines. Looks pretty cool, North Calgary could certainly use more tennis courts.

Joao Fonseca advances in Rio with a 6-4 6-4 win over Cristian Garin. He next takes on Mariano Navone. Brazil vs. Argentina, it should be a raucous crowd.

From what I have heard they haven't even secured the land yet so I wouldn't get too excited. It's better than nothing but five courts isn't enough when you consider how hard it is to book at the ATC (have to get up at 7:00 am a week in advance and pray you can beat out others) or Aforza.

Wow, big upset as Anna Kalinskaya takes out Iga 6-4 6-4 and thus we have a WTA final between an unseeded player (Paolini) and a qualifier (Kalinskaya).

Joao Fonseca's run in Rio ends tonight at the hands of Mariano Navone. Fonseca won the first set 6-2 and appeared to be cruising, but I think he got swept up in the moment and the crowd and started being ultra-aggressive which led to a ton of unforced errors.
