This guy showed up just after I landed in Lethbridge this afternoon. Not something you get to see everyday! Couldn't believe the rotor wash even from this distance. Very cool.
(Forgive the borderline potato camera picture).

Trudeau's plane was flying from Ottawa to Belgium tonight and had to return to Ottawa due to "mechanical issues". In response to the uniformed tweets I've seen: the plane is not that old. It's about the same age as the two Air Force One planes... 1985-1990 range. Not really that old considering how little flying it does.

The same uninformed people will scream bloody murder if the government ever wanted to replace said aircraft.
Not to mention that we HAVE to buy it from Bombardier...
Just stumbled across the ATC for the British Airways A380 diversion to Vancouver last week. I haven't listened to it yet but the intro says the crew was planning a diversion to Calgary. Should have some insight on why they decided to go to Vancouver instead.

Half watched most of the video while watching the ball game.
Vancouver handles A380s, so they have better ground support. Unless there was another reason later in the video, that along with the weather was the reason for Vancouver.

Apparently nobody in Calgary has a towbar to push the damn thing out of the gate once it's in. I think 4 have come to Edmonton so far and there is an officially designated gate and taxiway routing for the A380. The last 2 have not gone to the gate and instead made use of the absolutely gigantic apron and airstairs. If you've got to get a bunch of people out, obviously you want to go to a gate. Prior to Monday, Edmonton was a better choice despite the distance to hospitals. Gate 78 at Calgary's new terminal now makes it the easy choice over YEG in the event that YVR is too far... assuming somebody buys a towbar.
I pushed a Delta 757 and I'd never pushed anything that big before, on a big ass tractor that I hated. Shattered that towbar and was reminded of how much they cost.
Luckily they're designed so the towbar snaps and not the nose of the airplane.
I can understand a towbar for a Q400 would be smaller than a 747, but would a tow bar for a 747 still work fine for smaller aircraft?
Are they plane (or relative size of place) specific?
In my experience it is all in the attachment point to the aircraft. There are 'universal' bars which work with everything from an f-18 to a herc, but not with the C-17 on up. Designs change over the years.
Most aerocentres/airports have several bars. Most likely the airline would provide it if they wanted to use the facility. Unless airport management really wanted to lure them I doubt they would ever spend the money.
Aerocentres try to be well equiped to lure in the military aircraft. You can lose a $30k fuel up over something like that!
Was just thinking this morning about all the different types of aircraft I've flown on or flew, thought I'd make a list and encourage everyone to share theirs.

The federal government will raise foreign ownership levels for domestic airlines, a move that could spark the creation of ultra low-cost domestic carriers.
The government also announced its intention to bring in legislation that will spell out a traveller’s bill of rights, which will give passengers some remedies if they feel they’ve been wronged by a carrier.
Quote:
In the meantime, the Trudeau government hopes to encourage more competition in the Canadian air travel market by boosting foreign ownership limits to 49 per cent from the current 25 per cent. Nonetheless, no single international investor will be permitted to own more than 25 per cent of a particular airline.
This is expected to immediately benefit two airlines — Canada Jetlines Ltd. of Richmond, B.C., and Enerjet of Calgary — which had applied to Garneau’s office for an exemption to the foreign ownership restrictions. Both Canada Jetlines and Enerjet will be granted those exemptions immediately while legislation works its way through Parliament.
Here's mine. I flew a lot as a kid on CP Air, Wardair, then Canadian so it was an interesting exercise in remembering various trips. Can't ever remember being on a 777 or 757 though. I do remember window curtains and smoking though.

I have the full boeing 7 fleet, other than a 707, under my belt. Trying to remember the first time I flew and with whom:
717 Delta
727 AC
737 CP/Canadian
747 Qantas
757 AA
767 Delta
777 Cathay
787 BA
And that's not counting all the iterations of each...
