Since about January, Poirier hasn't been nearly as good offensively as he was when he first arrived in the A. Not sure why he isn't clicking. He doesn't seem to be as on the ball as he was initially. Not getting into the right spots and not doing the right thing when he does.

So you're saying Simpson is really holding them in it?

Not anymore. He got yanked after the 4th goal.
Honestly, I'm not watching, just following the AHL game report. Maybe they were all on glorious scoring chances, but the optics are not good when the shots are 25-15 for the Heat, but they are getting clobbered 4-0.

Serious question?
If so, he was traded to the Preds in the off-season for a conditional 2016 4th round pick.
He's playing on their farm team in Milwaukee. 5 points in 10 games.

I certainly didn't expect this team to be an elite AHL team, it's still fairly young and inexperienced. I didn't think they'd be terrible though.....and that's what they are so far through 8 games.
The main thing is that they develop prospects for the future of the Flames, but IMO many of these guys are really under performing so far.
Shore with 2 points and 1 goal thru 8 games
Poirier with 3 points and 0 goals thru 8 games
Agostino with 0 goals
...and so and so on
Yuck. Get it together down there.

Ugh. Eight goals in the last 7 games for the Heat. They're getting tough to watch.
For you advanced stats junkies, their PDO is 25th in the league at 97.2. So they're incredibly unlucky, but that's only because of their shooting percentage, mostly. They're shooting a measly 5.8% (27th in the AHL) while their save percentage is 91.3% (13th in the AHL).
So yeah, above average save percentage combined with an embarrassingly low shooting percentage is no good.
This team has A LOT of kinks to work out beginning with needing more out of their premier players as Roof-Daddy pointed out.

Heat were ahead 1-0 when Gillies got hurt on Friday.
Simpson let in 2 goals almost immediately when he came in. To his credit, he was good the rest of the way.
But yeah.
Can't buy a goal. And now some weak goaltending. Hmmm.

I watch some of the games on AHL Live and I follow the Heat as close as i can but I would never claim to be dialed in the way I am with the Flames...but...it just seems to me that Huska doesn't get a lot out of these guys. Last year's team under performed and here we go again. I would have hired Todd Nelson. Huska would make a nice assistant coach working with the defensemen.

Yeah. I am not ready to throw Huska under the bus yet, but I am definitely starting to have some concerns

Poirier is a French speaking guy a long way from home and it might be a big deal for him...
Maybe an equal apples for apples trade with Montreal would be a good idea... They would love to get ahold of him I'm sure and might even be willing to give up a slightly better player to get a home grown one... Don't know what else to think... I watched the guy in Junior and he was awesome and I know the Flames have big hopes for him..

Not a bad idea at all actually. I wonder who a good target would be?
