The worst injustice to everyone, including these bands, isn’t that they’re overrated per se. Rather that a small few singles have defined the band so ALL you hear is the same few songs and it just spoils things.
Deuces Are Wild being played by every rock radio station 5 times a day while Nobody’s Fault or Rats in the Cellar are literally never ever played?
16 episodes of Live and Let Die but ne’er a Dead Horse or Mr.Brownstone?
Back in Black and Hell’s Bells ad neauseum but god forbid Down Payment Blues or Riff Raff gets a spin just once.
Kiss, well, yeah. Even when they’re at their best, it’s like a sort of solid single album Comp.

It's not the fact that you do or don't like something
It's the fact that they have a need to make sure EVERYONE knows that they don't like it

ACDC was great to listen to in my teens and early 20's, now if they come on the radio you can guarantee its one of 5 or so songs and I change the station immediately.
I was pretty surprised on a recent trip that was way too close to Edmonton, but CJSR radio had a metal show around 1pm that was half decent. My wife fell asleep and I had it going for about an hour

I think all those bands deserve their success. Being massively popular means that your music resonates with a lot of people which to me is mission accomplished. However, rather than overrated I would say some bands have achieved a higher degree of greatness due consistent quality in their discography than others. First of all Kiss overall discography really isn't that great. They have some really good songs but they are largely surrounded by weak material stretching decades. AC/DC is a legendary band but the reality is that everything after Back in Black is basically sonically the same. It's like they took a great song and made several decades of albums out of that one great song stretching it too far. To me that doesn't change how great they were in the Scott years and early Johnson and more that the 2nd half of their career was pretty meh.

Terrible Live though. They just played their Greatest hits Album without changing anything. No riffs etc.

There’s no The in Eagles. But really they should be called Joe Walsh and the #######s.

Regarding foods you dislike, I’ve seen many of those charts on Facebook listing about 30-40 foods asking how many you would not eat. I don’t recall ever seeig one food I would not eat. I’m an adventurous eater.

If a band is capable of having one or two legit greatest hits compilations, I don’t think they’re over-rated. KISS doesn’t do it for me though.
I kinda think Grateful Dead is the most over-rated.

I think Bob Marley is probably the most well liked and popular musician ever. I think Asia is the only continent that youd have a hard time finding someone whos heard of him.

Legend is one of the best selling albums of all time. What's telling it that no other Reggae albums are remotely close. He transcended the genre.

If we are talking world wide popularity, would it not be MJ?

Absolutely true. But purely popularity, it's gotta be him.
Or the Gangnam Style guy.

Radio station program directors are the worst thing to happen to music in the history of music, spineless pieces of garbage with no balls or power to do anything but repeat what the data tells them. Familiar makes people feel good so they keep doing it, same ol' crap repeated over and over.

It's actually interesting how little cachet some of these bands have in the UK whereas they're ubiquitous on the radio over here. Guns N Roses were huge, but Aerosmith, AC/DC and the Eagles only had one top 10 hit each compared to double figures in North America (I just checked wikipedia) Kiss apparently had two top 10 hits in the UK, but I'm not familiar with them. My only exposure to Kiss was on shows like The Simpsons and Family Guy, so I was surprised to come over here and discover that they were an actual real band and not some gimmicky novelty act.
You guys sure do love your classic rock over here. I worked in a warehouse for a number of years and every goddamned night the radio was tuned to the classic rock station. So glad I never have to hear "Jessica" or "Under My Thumb" again.
