The NDP reminds me of that Simpsons episode where Bart is running for class president.... "They are taking away our asbestos, but I say we want more asbestos!".
In this particular election, they moved a little right of the Liberals on some issues for the sake of making rallying calls. To me, they just aren't pragmatic enough to deal with. If Harper steps down after losing like he said he would, I think the CPC will be easier to deal with after being humbled. Mulcair is just too much of a contrarian IMO.

This, the whole lib/ndp alliance a few on this board assume is going to happen is out to lunch. I'd hope that the liberals will work with the conservatives mainly in a minority situation and leave Mulcair off on the sidelines.

Your work by law has to give you 3 hours to vote. Voting closes at 7:30 in AB, so they should be letting you off by 4:30 latest to vote.
|
Definitely going to leave at 4:30 then.

Yes it matters, churches and firehalls are public buildings. A masonic temple is not a public building, seems counter intuitive to have a public election in a private establishment.

How so? It's just a venue to vote.

Pretty sure a church is a private building.

Churches are not public buildings, they are Private Commercial properties.

My local community hall is a private building, as are churches. I can't think of any voting location besides schools that are public. Masonic Halls are no different than having it at the Legion hall.

I don't really have a problem with it as I am sure that Elections Canada is just renting the space. I just think it's an odd choice because of the conspiracy theories surrounding them and their "secret society" image.

Weird. I am not a catholic and voted there in the exact same manner as school gym. As long as the place isn't full of campaign materials I don't see how it matters at all. It's not like I had to take communion when I cast my ballot or anything. Its just a building that is suitable to hold a one day event.

I had my party picked out today, went to the Masonic lodge to vote and ended up voting for C'thulu instead. I'm not sure what happened, but it was probably the Masons.

There used to be a law about not doing that, but then the internet happened, and it was impossible to enforce. So now it seams they just said screw it, I guess. I would have thought they could have kept the ballot boxes closed, but then it gets to be midnight before they would start counting.

"Honey, the results have the Bloc winning! Better get out quick and vote against them. #ABB #StopDuceppe".
Anyone who cares enough to watch election coverage likely cares enough to vote, which, likely means they already have made a decision on who they are voting for even if they had to wait until late to vote.

I voted a few years ago at a United Church. They had a table set up in the lobby trying to enlist people for the congregation. Seemed to me they should not be using the election as a platform to promote their private agenda.

They should have the polling stations at places people actually want to go.
