I hope Xbox catches up and they stay neck and neck for the lifecycle of these systems. Pushes both of the companies to put out the best products they can and really cater to consumers.

EDIT of the EDIT: Holy AC Unity didn't start well.
1.) Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare (360, XBO, PS4, PS3, PC)
2.) Grand Theft Auto V (PS4, XBO, 360, PS3)
3.) Super Smash Bros. (NWU, 3DS)

6.) Far Cry 4 (PS4, XBO, 360, PS3, PC)
7.) Pokemon Omega Ruby (3DS)
8.) NBA 2K15 (PS4, 360, XBO, PS3, PC)
9.) Assassin's Creed: Unity (PS4, XBO, PC)
10.) Halo: The Master Chief Collection (XBO)

Not really surprising at all. Sunset Overdrive was bundled and the majority of the list is multi-console titles. It's a new IP and no way Sunset it is going to outsell even AC Unity spread over three platforms. This is the reason we are seeing less and less exclusive games. It's actually very impressive the MCC was right behind a perennial multiplatform big seller like AC.
How can Nintendo ever fail when they can just keep trotting out Pokémon games and continue sell millions?

Yeah I don't think the PS4 would be the console it is today if it wasn't for Microsoft pushing them.

Exactly, and the 360 wouldn't have been the console it was if it wasn't for the success of the PS2.
Competition is good for the end consumer.

So after getting into the Master Chief Collection, I really hope the Halo sequels are a lot better than the original game because holy crap is it ever a repetitive slog to get through. It's kinda baffling how it got the universal critical acclaim it did, I'm just not seeing it

Halo revolutionized the genre. Perhaps the reason you're not seeing it is because Bungie set the standard that every company has tried to emulate for the last dozen years.

Disagree -- this happened three years later with Half Life 2. Hence why Halo 1's campaign feels old and repetitive.

Without Halo, HL2 doesn't play like it does. There would be no Call of Duty.
Most casual gamers haven't even heard of Half Life.
I'd argue that Halo has been the most influential video game released over the last 20 years.

I'll give you CoD, but explain how HL2 was influenced by Halo. The first Half-Life was a more revolutionary game than Halo was, HL2 just expanded upon that

HL2 and CoD play drastically differently and are far more cinematic in their approach than the original Halo. I don't really see much, if any influence at all in those series from Halo.
For most influential game in the last twenty years I'd lean towards Grand Theft Auto III. There really wasn't much in the way of an 'open-world' genre before it (save for a few less successful attempts). Now every other game that comes out is open-world.

Half-Life is predominantly a PC game. It makes its debut on PC before coming out on console years later.
Halo brought console FPS to a level that is comparable to the playability of FPS on PC. Like it or not, the video game industry follows the curve of consoles now, not the PC.
Again, the video game industry would not be where it is today if it were not for Halo. The only other game (though from a different genre) that I think had a comparable influence is GTA3.

Have you played Goldeneye recently? The controls are ####. I have no idea how I was so good at that game when I was younger.
Fact of the matter is, Halo did for modern console FPS what Goldeneye did for it back in the 90s. A lot of what the first Halo offered already existed in games like Unreal Tournament and HL on PC. But that experience didn't exist on consoles until Halo came around. The game was a big deal back when it came out and it set the framework for the majority of shooters that followed.
Halo was the first FPS on console to use twin analogue sticks for controls. They introduced the 2 weapon max system and regenerating health that practically every FPS today uses. They blended on foot and vehicular combat for the first time on console. I believe they had vehicles in UT99 but that was only on PC.
It had a coop campaign, which was the first FPS I remember being able to play through with a friend. It introduced the idea of LAN play to console. Getting together with a big group of friends and hooking up multiple Xboxs for 16 player multiplayer was a blast. Before that you had 4 players max on a single TV.
I could understand how someone playing it for the first time in 2014 wouldn't see anything special but I could say the same thing about games like the original Deus Ex or Half Life.

I do. Plex was brought to my attention when I was ranting to a friend about how iTunes should manage their videos using iCloud. All I wanted to do was be able to watch my library while on my lunch break or on vacation. I also subscribe to it just to keep them happy and developing. Not needing iTunes to manage the videos on my iPad for my kids is worth the yearly cost and then some.
