Any deal where Russia saves face is bad for security long term. They will wait a few years regroup and try again, too many delusional Russkiy Mir types exist in that government.
The inroads Russia has made thus far are largely in the areas with large Russian speaking/ethnic populations that were largely pro-Russian to begin with. There are only so many of those areas in Ukraine, and the largest ones (besides the Crimea, which was already occupied by Russia) were already involved in a heavy civil war with Ukraine that has been raging for almost a decade, although we didn't hear much about it.
The Ukrainian population, outside of these breakaway regions, is now quite polarized against Russia. Any future invasions will be met with fierce guerilla warfare, and there's no way for Russia to hold them.
It's not a case of Russia simply re-arming and going back in. There's no one to accept them once they go back in. The Ukrainians will also be far more well armed and prepared the next time around. Ukraine has mandatory military service, but that training had become relaxed and there was talk about doing away with it. Now, there's no doubt it will be ramped up and targeted directly at stopping future Russian invasions. Ukraine has already stated that all women will now require training. I guarantee the US will be providing Ukraine with all sorts of new weapons and abilities to stop future Russian military movement.

Russians dropped a bomb on the drama theater in Mariupol, which was designated as a gathering place for people who lost their homes and livelihoods. Among those who were in the theater, there were many children and patients in need of special attention

I really would like to hear a detailed explanation about what the "so-called gender freedoms" means... can't wait to see how that "self-purification of Russian society" plays out, that worked a treat in the 1880s.

Maybe I'm misinterpreting, but it seems like he's setting up the pre-text to arrest any foreign Russians who made statements that didn't support Russia if they ever come back.
He's setting the groundwork for "us (patriots)" vs. "them (anyone he says isn't a patriot)" mentality, and everything that goes on to justify the protection of Russian patriots as a result.
Fascist playbook 101.

I wonder if the US' laser technology is at level suitable for combat yet. Not like they'd give that to Ukraine at this point, but the US is known for testing new equipment on the battlefield covertly (such as the stealth bombers in the Gulf War, and the 'mother of all bombs' in Afghanistan). Granted, they were directly involved in those wars on the ground.
Watched a couple of different war relared videos today that I thought were interesting.
First is an interview of a British volunteer
And the second is some thoughts from a Polish civilian, about the solidarity and support they're showing towards Ukrainians and just how close it all is for them.

He's been planning this for a while...just because the west turned a blind eye to his transgressions in Georgia, Chechnya, Crimea and Syria and that he made himself dictator for life, doesn't change he was planning this at some point or another and he most certainly is not satisfied with just Ukraine.
That he failed miserably at his goal and was led to believe his own propaganda doesn't change that he a ruthless psychopath. Perhaps 2020 delayed this by 2 years, or expedited his plan, but this was coming one way or another.
