If the Flames don't get 1st overall I'm happy anywhere 2-8 tbh. Same quality players from everything i've seen. If anyone has more insight than myself, correct me as I would love to hear otherwise.

That would require them to be a bottom 10 pick and actually win with very few odds to. I doubt the “fix” is in this year but in 2026? Could absolutely see them stealing McKenna because why not, only the Oilers and Pens can grab generational talents.

I actually see Penguins don't have their 1st round pick anyway. My bad.

Based on what they have done over the last month or so how could you not make the rest of the season an extended training camp.

Another nice OOT night for the tank. Pittsburgh stays ahead, Islanders and St Louis keep their cushion, Kraken win keeps them 2 points up.
The big "hurdle" now is that the schedule saved all the Pacific deadbeats for April. Anaheim & SJ x2. Plus Arizona. It would take an extraordinary tanking effort to not run a little ahead of the pack and get back into 11th or so I think.

Even before trading away half their defence corps, the Flames showed they were quite capable of losing to San Jose. And they weren't even trying to tank.
I still believe the most likely outcome is that they finish 25th overall, which would have them drafting 8th before the lottery.

Flames suck against the basement dwellers. Record is pretty bad.

According to Tankathon.com, the Flames have the 2nd easiest remaining strength of schedule.
From hardest remaining SOS to easiest, here's us and the teams we're hoping to draft ahead of:
5- OTT
7- BUF
9- MTL
10 - NJD
11 - ARI
29 - SEA
31 - CGY
Seems likely we finish above Buffalo and New Jersey, which would put us 10th in the draft?

Flames should lose the most then! Flames cannot handle an easy schedule

Of course, this isn't entirely true: 1-0 versus the Ducks, 2-0 against the Yotes and Habs, 1-1 v Sabres, NJD and Ottawa.
They have bad records versus SJ, Chicago and Columbus.

Flames perform about the same vs. good teams as they do vs. bad teams.

If you look on other teams' boards, their teams always:
a. perform worse against bad teams/play down to their opposition
b. face hot goalies or backups who play their best game
c. allow first goals for rookies, or slump busting goals
d. are inconsistent/don't play a full 60 minutes/aren't "ready to play"

you forgot
e. constantly get pushed around by other teams and need an enforcer to "keep them honest"

GOAT!
|
I mean...
"Contenders" (record | goal diff)
vs VGK: 3-0-1 | +5
vs TBL: 2-0 | +5
vs WPG: 2-0 | +5
vs BOS: 2-0 | +4
vs DAL: 2-1 | +3
vs NSH: 2-1 | +3
vs TOR: 1-0-1 | -1
vs FLA: 1-1 | -2
vs VAN: 1-2 | 0
vs COL: 0-3 | -7
"Tankers"
vs ANA: 1-0 | +3
vs NYI: 1-1 | +3
vs CHI: 1-2 | -2
vs SJS: 0-1 | -3
vs CBJ: 0-2 | -5
It's not really about "record vs under .500 teams" for the Flames. It's about "record vs the best teams compared to record vs the worst teams." That's the Flames' thing.

You are cherry picking a bit here. Where's Buffalo, Montreal, NJD, Ottawa, AZ?

That "pretenders" quadrant looks good on the Coil, that's all I can say.

Total charry picking - why include NYI, but not include ARI, MTL, OTT, SEA and BUF (combined record of 8-4)
