To me there are 4 guys who could go 1st overall, and then the 4 next, and then the rest.
I could see the Flames taking Ryan Pulock if we're picking #7 and the centre management like isn't on the board anymore. I would not be unhappy.

Do you think there's any chance at all he slips to the late first round? Craig Button has him going very late, which much be due to the lack of production whilst he was hampered with his wrist injury.

Mid first I think is his likely draft position. Furthest drop I see is about 20-25, but then again, I don't get to see him a whole lot.

I'm interested in Button's list though. It looks like a real scout's list as oppose to fairly standardized values sent out by ISS. I honestly wonder if he gets a bit of his information from his old Flames' sources since he can't scout them all...so he just goes and asks them for a bit of info. The reason this pops up for me is he seemed to be in the know about the Flames taking Jankowski last year, an off the boards pick.

His production was also really hampered by the fact that his team (especially the forwards) weren't very good. He led the team in points.

How many more points would he have had if they had forwards who finished his passes.

I really hope Pulock falls to the Blues pick. If you could end up with:

1) Monahan/Lindholme
2) Pulock
3) Compher

That would be an amazing draft, potentially a first line center, top pairing d-man, 2nd line center that agitates and has skill.

#21 on the draft board is Frederik Gauthier, a huge, 2 way Centre in the QMJHL playing for Rimouski; and the man who scored the Gold Medal winning goal for Canada on Sunday at the U18.

I'd be real happy if we got Gauthier with our St. Louis pick. A big centre with a good two way game who can produce when it counts, sounds good. Too good to last until we pick.

Agreed. He sounds like a great fit. Big body, strong defensively and can win some faceoffs. He probably won't ever be a first line center, but would be a great fit on the third line. Most of the rankings I've seen put him somewhere around 19-25 so he'll be touch-and-go for the St. Louis pick. Imagine our center depth in a few years if we can get him and Lindholm/Monahan to go with Backlund/Jankowski.

How do the experts rate Gauthier's "hockey sense"?

That's always a question I ask now, given the high priority our scouting/management place on that trait.

If he has it, could be an amazing late first round pick up.

Imagine us having Monahan, Jankowski, and Gauthier up the middle on the top 3 lines moving forward. All big centers that have offensive skill and can play reliably in their own end. Ridiculous.

I really want one of Gauthier or JT Compher with our late firsts.

I think people underrate the big, strong, second line center that is strong defensively and on faceoffs. Those guys are usually just as big a part of playoff runs as the first line scoring centers.

If you had those three centers you could technically shelter one of them to be your first line center on an offensive line. Much like the Canucks did with the Sedins when they had Kesler and Malholtra at 100%.

It also doesn't hurt that we have Bill Arnold in the pipeline as he seems to be profiling into a quality 3rd/4th line Center as well and he's 6-3 if I recall correctly.

Having depth at center is imperative, well above everything else. After getting the centers, all the rest of the pieces can fall into place easily.

He's 6'0" according to the BC website and hockeydb.

I agree that Arnold has the makings of a very good 3rd/4th liner. Can't recall how well he does on faceoffs, but he could be a valuable piece that often is overlooked in the depth chart.

Exactly you get the centers, then Backlund shifts to wing where he was hugely successful during the lockout. It also lets Horak shift to wing, a place where he seems to be more comfortable, especially offensively.

If you have three big centers in Monahan, Jankowski, and Gauthier the size issue on the rest of the roster really becomes inconsequential. Baertschi, Horak, Gaudreau, Hudler, etc on the wings not longer is that big of a pain point.

That would be a fantastic center lineup if they all pan out. Especially since Monahan & Gauthier can play physical.

I am a big fan of Janko, but I don't think he will ever have a physical edge, so I would also like a RW with a physical edge to play with him eventually.

Arnold is good at faceoffs in the NCAA. This past season he was 52.5 % with 568 taken, the most taken on his team.

The ripping on Anthony Mantha was brutal.

Not sure how a 17/18 year old kid deserves to be just absolutely lashed like that.

Sure say he has no heart, etc but to absolutely go off on a kid like that is unprofessional in my opinion.
