But its plastic.

It's also odd that they once again dropped firewire, and this model doesn't include the SD card slot either.

I misread, I thought the original post said 10,000 minis, their site says 500.

I love how they indicate they are in one of the most advanced data centers in the world yet list off basic data centre features that any company of 5+K employees would have

Very cool setup though - are there Mac Blade Servers or is the mini all Mac sells?

Yeah, they are in a nice data center, but its not theirs. It's quite a bit more advanced a facility that a typical data centre though - they have a link to a Wired article about it on their Facility section of their site. It's a good read.

Are any other laptop makers putting LED displays into their entire lineup?

That's probably a stupid question.

If only there was windows software for that magic mouse.

Currently I'm using the apple extended keybouard on my windows computer here at work, which is great, and also the apple mighty mouse, which has good feel, but could use some windows software to make it work better with windows.

God I want that macbook. I want it so damn bad. I picked a remarkably poor time to start saving for a new camera lens.

Yeah, sorry. I reread the article (read originally it a year ago) and a report from the Macminiloco company stated this re the popularity of the Mini which sells 2:1 business to consumers...

"For instance, here in Las Vegas, I know there are at least 10,000 Mac minis running in the different hotels and casinos on the strip," said Brian Stucki, who owns and operates the Mac mini colocation service. "Many are used for video security points. Certain casino companies use Mac minis in each of the slot islands on a casino floor to manage the backend. I know of one nationwide salon franchise that uses two Mac minis for each one of their stores."

One thing I like about the mighty mouse is the deceptively high # of buttons on it. I like being able to launch expose, spaces and such from my mouse. They are preaching a lot about how customizable the magic mouse is, but I'd like to confirm it can do both those things before buying one.

I'm a little saddened to see the wireless keyboard replacing the wired one for the iMacs. I'm not a fan of them ... I like the size but the lack of a number pad and forward delete key gives me the shakes.

Everything else about the iMac looks awesome though. It takes me a while to save up for something like that, but if I was in the market I would definitely give them a good hard look (wonder what my current iMac would go for?).

I don't know about the availability of the Magic Mice, but you can still select the wired keyboard with number pad when you buy an iMac online.

It took me sooo long to figure that out. I think I had my mac for almost a year before I came across that tip. I still don't do it though, not sure why. I guess Apple has assimilated me into their seedy non-forward-deleting subculture.

Haha, I hear that.

Edit: Also, for anyone interested, there's a handy little app for that type of stuff that someone here recommended to me way back:

I can see a web hosting company using it or maybe a design/architecture company.

For a front end the virus/hack issue is a big one. Especially since there are at least a limited number of experienced Linux administers out there.

A lot of medical and research companies would use them too to run their specailized Unix apps over xgrid.

They look really nice in a rack though. Apple's booth at NAB a few years ago.
