Ok, I will check 09 out right now. If it is only "challenge others" we'd have to generate our own schedule. We could make it work.
Edit: So I went to "Create League" online and from what I can tell the "Season" is only 10 games max, plus playoffs. You could have up to 32 people so I assume you can play as any team from any of the leagues. Simple trade was "on" which said you could trade players 1 for 1, and they have to be similar position.
I can't tell whether there is a schedule or not because I am the only one in the league, but I think it is just "challenge opponent" type of thing.
Hopefully we get more announcements for NHL 10 on the online modes, because as it stands right now, it is pretty bare.
What Russic said is basically all there is. Join a league and free for all.
My guess is for NHL 11 which is their 20th anniversary (I believe). The Online season in Madden for those unaware is like CPHL, where everyone drafts and runs a team (I think they draft it).
