I hate all the other Canadian teams with a passion.

If none of them ever won any draft lotteries, I'd be happy.

That being said, it would be nice to see Laine become better than Matthews. My hatred for the jets is much less intense than all the other Canadian teams.

I think it's a good comparison Ovechkin is a similar player to Laine, Crosby is a similar player to Matthews.

I could see Laine winning the Calder over Matthews, just like Ovechkin over Crosby.

Laine is an amazing talent, but he is incredibly one-dimensional. The Leafs had to take the 200FT #1 C. You can't build around a one-dimensional winger. It does not work.

And Ovi's never been out of the second round.

The thing is, he's not much father ahead in points as Matthews. 4 points with 3 more games played.

He's finished 1,2,2 in Selke voting the last 3 years and has two cups. Not sure how much better he can get.

Matthews can be better offensively.

Possibly but at the same time being a better overall player than Kopitar? Highly doubtful. Kopitar isn't no slouch offensively either. He has 700 points in something like 780 games.

I'll never get this type of perspective...the same thing occurs with Subban and Ovechkin. As soon as anyone has any sort of individual personality, we slap it down.

Its not as if I prefer a group of individuals playing like you often see in the NBA, but a bit of personality is a positive thing IMO.

Such a conservative sport sometimes!

This so much. The NHL exists because of the fans. Give them a show. Don't suck the life out of entertainers.

I would expect Laine's light blue bar to drop soon and Matthews' light blue bar to rise soon. I guess we will see by then end of the season what happens.

Also you gotta look at the linemates. Matthews plays with 2 other rookies. Laine plays with more veteran players.

Yup. Matthews has been better than Laine this season. Laine's shooting % is unsustainably high, Matthews unsustainably low.

With this early in their careers, people are morons to suggest Laine is better with the overall stats.

Laine being cocky does not matter. What matters is his incredibly one-dimensional game and unsustainably high shooting %.

Can Laine possibly be better overall than Matthews?

They just went 1/2 in a draft that's months old. Of course he can be.

He better improve a ton in his overall game. He is the most one dimensional forward right now in the NHL.

Nylander is pretty one-dimensional right now. Is it impossible for him to improve?

Statistically Nylander is not one-dimensional.
