I used to not mind the Eagles. Then I did the SE Asia-India thing and literally every restaraunt in Thailand plays the Eagles greatest hits on repeat. Haven't had the urge to listen to them since. And Oasis, who were also inexplicably insanely popular there. I think I saw a dozen Oasis cover bands. One was really good.

From Don Henley:
Quote:
"Glenn was the one who started it all," he wrote. "He was the spark plug, the man with the plan. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of popular music and a work ethic that wouldn't quit. He was funny, bullheaded, mercurial, generous, deeply talented and driven."
"We are all in a state of shock, disbelief and profound sorrow," he wrote. "We brought our two-year History of the Eagles Tour to a triumphant close at the end of July and now he is gone.
"I'm not sure I believe in fate, but I know that crossing paths with Glenn Lewis Frey in 1970 changed my life forever, and it eventually had an impact on the lives of millions of other people all over the planet," he continued. "It will be very strange going forward in a world without him in it. But, I will be grateful, every day, that he was in my life."
On a side note, Dale Griffin, the drummer from Mott the Hoople, died today too. I only know them from "All The Young Dudes" so he is related to Bowie but dies on the same day as Glen Frey.

Couldn't agree more....Hell Freezes Over tour... IIRC 1995 (somewhere in there as that part of my life all just blends together).
The music is great, the vocals are terrific and the whole experience of an Eagles show is unforgettable.
And I 2nd the suggestion of watching the documentary on them...remarkable stuff and knowing how close Henley and Frye were, this has to be a very hard time for Don as well as Timothy B and Joe.
Just really sad news.
This one is hard. My now Husband took me to this concert on our first date.
We met at a mutual friends party and he over heard me bitching about the price of tickets and as he says "couldn't help myself" and started up a conversation with me to make sure I was normal. We then Proceeded to talk all night and exchange phone numbers.
Anyways long story short, when they came out and started right into Hotel California, I grabbed him by the arm and started cheering. Well he told his friends after that he was going to marry me. Here we are 20 years later.
Take It Easy,is by far our favorite song.

This one hit pretty hard. I grew up on the Eagles' songs, but when I became aware of them, it was the 80s so they were broken up. My first thought of Glenn Frey is Smuggler's Blues, which taught me all I needed to know about drug-running as a kid.
So happy to have caught the Eagles just over two years ago at the Dome. And the documentary The History of the Eagles is so good - so much footage from the 70s.

We may curse our bad luck that it's sounds like its; who's sounds like whose; they're sounds like their (and there); and you're sounds like your. But if we are grown-ups who have been through full-time education, we have no excuse for muddling them up.
My first Eagles memory is when I got #### from my Dad in the 70's for scratching his Eagles Greatest Hits album. It was part of the soundtrack of my youth for certain. Overplay got to me for most of their tunes, but I still love watching the DVD with my Dad of the whole group playing Hotel California.
Well, I'm running down the road
tryin' to loosen my load
I've got seven women on
my mind,
Four that wanna own me,
Two that wanna stone me,
One says she's a friend of mine
Take It easy, take it easy
Don't let the sound of your own wheels
drive you crazy
Lighten up while you still can
don't even try to understand
Just find a place to make your stand
and take it easy

I have to admit that "In the city" is still one of my favorite Eagles songs because of the opening rythm and the fact that it was in one of my favorite movies.

Great band, criminally underrated.
Will play all the way to Memphis in his honour.
