I don't think you get to drag Shatner without including this timeless gem from Nimoy...
I think network TV deals all had these "additional duties as designated by management" clauses that contractually required stars to do the song and dance routine in network specials. For example, the Brady Bunch Variety Hour...
These poor souls must have wanted to crawl into a hole and die...

The pilot episode of Star Trek TNG was one of the weirdest, cringiest things I've ever seen (Encounter at Farpoint). It's the episode where Q abducts them and makes them go on 'trial' for humanity and it's so...campy and cheesy. I honestly can't believe they thought that was a good way to start the series. Even as a stand alone episode it would be bad. Thank god it was all uphill from there.

The Brady Bunch Variety Hour was good, solid entertainment by 1976 television standards. According to wikipedia:
The special garnered high ratings and led to eight additional 60-minute episodes which were produced and aired sporadically under the shortened title The Brady Bunch Hour from January 23 to May 25, 1977.
And it’s not as though the cast had anything else going on work-wise in 1976, two years after the Brady Bunch was cancelled. They got paid and got to keep working in showbiz.

Yeah, "Code of Honor" has something to say about that.
Definitely quite down hill from "Encounter at Farpoint", and ~44 minutes of complete cringe.
