Sad day for sports today. I watched Darren on ITV pretty much every night when I studied at the UoA every night. He was great in hosting the sports section of the news. Quite original and not pretentious. After coming back to Calgary, I missed watching him and Calgary's CFAC, before they became part of GlobalTV, had their own sports cast, which seemed similar to Darren in a lot of ways. It's kind of a shocker that he passed away at the age of 57 - that's still pretty young in life! Anyway, RIP Darren. Will miss hearing you on TSN.

That is some sad news to start the day with. I had no idea he was battling cancer. All the best to his family and friends at this difficult time. I enjoyed him on TV, seemed like a lively character.

That's crazy. Prostate cancer rarely occurs that young, and it's rarely that aggressive or metastatic. The odds of that happening are incredibly low. That's awful luck.

What a sad day. I met Darren a few times and he was a blast each of them. All round great guy and a voice for many growing up watching TSN.
This still brings a smile to my face. Note the date: not even drafted yet.

A few old media friends grew up with him and went to WABC together. Only met him a few times and really only from a distance. Genuinely seemed like one of the good ones.
RIP Dutch.

This is devastating. He's one of those guys that I feel I grew up watching and fostered my love of sports. I also happened to be in Porcupine Plain a couple years ago where they proudly proclaimed to be the home town of Dutch. I had lunch there and asked a couple locals about him - they were so proud of him and loved him so much. It was neat to see. I hope he knows how much he was loved by an entire country of sports fans.

My favorite Dutchy moment was when he joined Jay and Dan on their podcast and was doing a Bane impression. Sad to hear this news.

Sucks to hear, cancer is awful.
He looked like a bigger dude, but we find out that he was big because he was big into lifting.

Its always sad when one of the good ones goes so young.
Make sure you keep up to your screenings when you see your doctor.

Remember him pre-TSN on ITV Edmonton as a kid. I grew up here, but my extended family was all up there, so I spent every Christmas there. Seeing him always reminded me of Christmas season as a kid. RIP, way too young.
