It'll be pretty darn close to the black line if we win tonight
The red snake is currently 3.195 points below the black line, and 3.000 points below the green snake. If the Flames win tonight they are 2.366 points below the black line and 2.000 back of the green snake. Including tonight, it will take four more wins in a row to get above the black line.
Last night's win was in game 7 of the season. In games 7-14, the 2014-15 team went 5-1-2, while the 2015-16 team went 3-4-1. It will be tough to keep pace with the green snake, as in games 7-27 of the 2014-15 season, that team put up 30 points in 21 games (71.4% of possible points), which is on pace for 117 points on the season. What followed that great stretch of play were sevens losses and an OTL in the next 8 games.

Everybody has been talking about how our bad start last season cost us playoffs. Out of curiosity, I looked at how devastating our current poor start has been on our chances (albeit after the last 2 wins). We're at 48%. Not that this should surprise anyone, but our bad start really hasn't tipped the scale.
At the extremes, Edmonton (ick) is at 77% (6-1-0) and Buffalo is at 35% (1-3-2). In summary, about a tenth of the way through the season, nothing is decided. Shocking!

I'd rather this thread doesn't turn into looking at sports club stats. We all know it's out there. I look at them too. Perhaps that can be another thread that you start. There are a ton of different metrics and graphs, including just looking at the standings. I don't want this thread to get derailed. The whole spirit of this thread, and the snakes, is that the Flames need not look at what the other teams are doing, and need to only focus on getting to at least 96 points. That's why I took Edmonton's snake out this year. It doesn't matter what they do. I left in the prior year snakes as a comparative snake journey.

My apologies. I do appreciate the snakes very much.

My favourite part is where the green snake touches the purple snake.
Did they reproduce eventually leading to the birth of the red snake? Is a slow start actually unrecoverable from? Could we have made the playoffs with a strong finish? Are patterns causal in nature? Do snakes kiss? So many questions....snakes.

All three snakes lost the first game. The green and purple snakes were the same for the first three games, but after that did not touch again. They did come close after game 35, but the green snake was still one point higher. After that game green won the next four and purple lost the next two. It was around this time, that faith started to ween for purple. There were too many sustained losing streaks, and then games 54-64 happened to seal it.
