Looking at the Aspire One website right now. It recommends that you charge $2,000/month to get full use of the benefits. Geez that sounds like a lot to me. I charge absolutely everything onto my credit card, including all work expenses and I have trouble breaking that $2000 monthly barrier.

I use a CIBC dividend card with no annual fee's. Pays back 1% off all purchases. I pay my balance every month.
I just like getting the cash back in December when it's needed.

I recently just moved back to RBC Avion from CIBC Aeroplan.
Aeroplan points are almost useless, as they are never available to use when you want them. RBC points are exchangeable on any airline, and the included insurance products are important if you travel once or a few times a year.

I use the MBNA World Points World card.
It is 2% cash back on everything with an $89 annual fee.
It also has all the standard perks like warranty extension, rental insurance waiver as well as things like loss prevention. If you buy something and it is stolen within a certain time MBNA will reimburse you. My brother had a new bike stolen and MBNA cut him a cheque.
It is a hard card to get though and I think you have to be an existing member to get it as it is offered to you and not advertised. If you are with MBNA already though and a good customer it is probably worth talking to customer service about switching.

If you can plan your trip a few months in advance, you can get good value for Aeroplan miles. For example, you can get business class return flight to Bangkok, Thailand for 125k Aeroplan miles plus $330 tax/fee. The business class return tickets worth over $6000. so you get 4-5 cents per mile.

i too just switched to avion, they give you 15000 miles just for signing up (enough for a short haul flight) and also if you bank with RBC and have multiple accounts they will give you the card for free!

Yup...finding my 100k+ Aeroplan points to be pretty useless. Last year they had a sale where all gas cards were 50% off. Waiting for that. The only thing keeping me in the program.

Best part about this card is you can get cash back on your points, use the points on any airline as all they do is reimburse travel recipes so no requirements.
Another unknown bonus is if you buy things like TVs with the card it either doubles manufacturers warranty up to 2 years to the existing warranty.
Yes there is an annual fee but if you spend enough you will easily make that fee back. They also give 10000 points every year on the anniversary.

I've had this card for about 18 months now. I've got 200,000 points saved up, which will take $2,000 off my next vacation.

Lol, if that's what balling is, then I don't want to be balling anymore.
A big chunk of that (15k) was my wedding.

Canadians could soon be hit at the cash register with credit card surcharges of as much as 10 per cent of the cost of their purchases, the Consumers’ Association of Canada warned Tuesday.
The association says that could be the outcome of a pending ruling from Canada’s competition tribunal, which is judging a case against Visa and MasterCard that was launched in 2010.
“It’ll be like striking the marketplace with lighting. It’ll disrupt the whole way that we pay for our goods,” said association president Bruce Cran of Vancouver. “Nobody knows about it but you could wake up one morning — next week this thing might be out — and you could be paying, all of a sudden, a 10-per-cent surcharge on some things. So it’s going to be a big shock.”

The SPG card is the one I keep and use a lot. The SPG points are great. I use this card everywhere I can to earn SPG points. I stayed in this beautiful hotel last time http://www.starwoodhotels.com/prefer...ropertyID=3088 3000 spg points per night. I did not pay a penny. everthing was covered by the 3000 points.

I use it for almost everything and I think only once or twice couldn't.
I think it gives you status too if you spend enough

Really? I've been to a ton of places that don't take it. I've got an Amex solely for shopping at Costco.

American Express has over a 80% acceptance rate. Most places take it, only small shops and mom and pop stores don't.

Yes most restaurants actually prefer it. I don't know about cabs. Pubs should, and I've used it a lot online as well.
