Calgary has 9th and 29th in round one right? I wonder what it would take to move up either the 9th to a top 5 pick, I know impossible right, but moreso moving that 29th pick up?

I could see toronto exchanging picks to add a second. 23 for 28?
Myself i see only two players we have that would interest top ten teams. Wolf and Anderson. Myself i am not a hundred percent sold on wolf being an nhl starter. If utah say came to us and said six for wolf i would take it and with the dearth of goalkeepers in the league it wouldn’t surprise me if some team made a pitch for him.
Im not a hundred percent convinced top ten teams will move much. However buffalo and detroit as well as minnesota could likely swing deals. Jersey who knows but would still love to snag ten from them.

Flames aren't getting better than 9th. Last year should have taught us or reminded us just how difficult it is now to grab 1st round picks these days. Certainly ones in the top 10.
28-30? Easier.

The Vancouver pick will decrease from ~25th to ~29th if they finish off the Oilers.

I'd be shocked if any team made a real play for him, or for that matter, Calgary would trade that pick.
I do expect that pick #6 would be considered a much better prospect than Wolf, but it's really hard to judge goaltenders at any age.

Plus we get a third if they advance.
I see it this way if VAN advances:
CGY trades:
25th pick
4th rd pick
VAN trades:
29th pick
3rd rd pick
Oilers tears
I make that trade every day and twice on Sunday

Given the large groupings of players in the first couple of rounds, this draft seems like a classic case of "bullets" in the chamber type of draft.
All moves should be to get more picks, not to package a couple picks to move up 5 spots.
Only moves I could see happening are packaging the Vancouver pick with a top player on the roster to move into the top 15.
Or, if another team comes calling with a 2nd, or 3rd for the Flames to move down a few spots, and they know they're guy will still be there, that would be a good move as well.
You're not getting into the top 15 by packaging 25 or 29 with a 2nd rounder.
As many bullets in the chamber as possible

I don't know anything about the prospects but I definitely think the Flames should make two 1st round picks
If we trade this pick for a 25 year old, I will pout

Top 5 would be tough, but a second pick in the top 12 would be amazing. Still some great choices in that 10-12ish range.
EDIT: Even top 15 and grab Adam Jiricek in that zone.

what is the trade value if #29 and #41? Can that get you into the top 20? Top15?
how about #41 and ~#63? Enough to get a late first?

Package that 29th overall pick with a second rounder or with a prospect to move up in the top 5 if possible. Keep the 9th overall pick. Flames picks in late first rounds and second round are mostly meh anyways with maybe a couple of exceptions.

I'm really liking Mews there if we go the D route, otherwise Basha, Beaudoin, Parascak, Howe, Letourneau would all be great.
Plenty of options, have to go BPA.

According to PuckPedia, #29 and #41 would get you up to #20
#41 and #63 gets you up to #32 or 33

You think 29+a second gets you a top 5 pick?

Likely not worth it. I'd probably rather have the extra pick then the slot upgrade in those spots.

There are many players that shouldn’t fall as far as they do. I’m saying let’s not be one of those teams that also pass on a potential “boom” player, risks and all.

So are you saying that you want them to deviate from their list of players to take someone that the media consensus is higher on because they are lower down on every NHL teams list?

But that should already be factored into their list no?
I would actually love to see a proper analysis into the success rate of drafting a falling player. I have no idea if it pays off or not. I can think of examples of each. (hyped guys, that fell, and were nothing and guys that fell and were steals)

I would make that my draft philosophy in general.
You can find bottom six players as free agents so the mandate to the scouting staff would be to find top line or top six potential for every draft pick. If the scouts don't believe that a player can be a top six forward, top four defenseman, or starting goaltender than they should not be chosen. Swing big for the fences every chance you get and maybe you get those mid round high end talents to fill gaps in skill.
Hate the idea of drafting someone in the middle rounds and hearing them described as a guy that will play on the bottom line in the NHL.
