Canes in 6. I think the Islanders put up a better fight than people expect but ultimately fall short.

At first glance this series looks like a total snoozer. Maybe it can rise above low expectations and deliver a few good games? Regardless I’m picking the Canes in 6 games.

Canes dismiss Isles swiftly in 5. Isles needed a huge push at the end of the season just to make it in. Canes have been excellent after their slow start to the season.

I'm gonna be that guy and pick the Islanders in 5.
Not because they have a hope in hell, but if they do win, I can have a totally unjustified reputation as a hockey Nostradamus.
I mean, people have made careers in the media out of less.

Guentzel has been absolutely great for CAR, and they really put together a great 2nd half.
As long as Andersen stays healthy it should be Carolina's series to lose.

The Isles are a team built on goaltending and team defense, but they really do lack the talent to score.
Carolina is one of the top defensive teams in the league, so as long as they get halfway decent goaltending (and by the looks of things recently, they will) I can't imagine they will give up a lot of goals to an Islanders team that struggles to score (only Washington scored fewer goals among playoff teams).
Then again, Carolina has been picked to go far the last few playoffs and been a disappointment, so it could just as easily be an upset if they get goalied by NYI. They scored plenty in the regular season, but would you say they have any elite talents that can finish chances and change the momentum in a series? Lots of scoring by committee, but only two players at or above a point per game pace, and one of them was traded at the deadline to them (Guentzel). I'm skeptical.
This could be a bit of a snoozer series. I'm taking the Canes in six, but I'm not super confident in that pick.

IMO the Canes are the most complete team in the league and the TDL additions combined with the return of good Freddie has this club in a great position to go on a long run.
Canes in 6.

Should be Canes in 5, but I'd love to see Roy work some magic for a crazy upset

In before the lock! Heh.
Canes in 5 to win at home after isles win 1 game at home. Patrick Roy’s influence keeps it close but ultimately the isles big win was making the playoffs. Canes on a mission.
