Yeesh. Already hard to find tee times.
I booked heritage for Saturday afternoon at 4. But going to keep an eye out for something earlier.

Talkin' Bout Practice?
Are ranges opening up? Besides Golfutures?
More specifically, what about short game facilities? I know Elbow Springs has a decent area, but I think last year it was members only.
Edit: short game at Elbow Springs will be members only this year as well

Sirocco has a pretty decent short game area.

Short game area is key.
There's one at my current club and even better they have a par 3 course that is lightly used. Before my rounds I arrive 40mins early, I go play the 1st, 8th, and 9th hole on the par 3 with a couple balls, hit some 40yr pitch shots (a few high ones off the left ear, and a few low ones off the right ear), then I hit putts till its time to tee off.
Getting better at those shots helps the handicap.

It's very tough in Calgary to find good sand practice, I find. I find it difficult to get better as I only end up trying them in actual rounds. McKenzie Meadows has a good practice trap in theory....except they have you smashing it up onto a putting green that usually has 3-5 people on it.
*Also, you haven't been able to use it during Covid.

Agree fully...and it's not just Calgary. Practice bunkers are few and far between. I always think about how much I practice full shots, and bunkers are a thousandth that practice total...but I hit in 4 bunkers during some 18hole rounds.

You look at the fees?...approx $1800 AUD for 12months and no joining fee or equity. Discounts for under 40s.

I know it's not the closest option but Strathmore has great practice options. Driving range off the grass, putting green, chipping green, and a bunker. Can practice every shot you'd face out on the course.
I'm such a range snob I wont really even bother hitting off turf anymore, really messes me up I find. I like seeing those divots.

I get totally messed up by mat practice as well. Maybe it's because I'm not that great yet (85-95 most rounds), but I find it to be two totally different strikes when you hit the surface (mats and grass). I won't do it unless I absolutely have to.
I mean I can practice on mats and then play a round on separate days, but if I practice on mats before a round I'll **** up my first two or three iron shots on the course, guaranteed.

If you are super steep into the ball like I am (AoA -4 with driver), hitting off mats actually gives reverse feedback.

Nice! Is basically every tee time booked? I went to the range today and it was completely packed. I can only imagine Saturday when it's 19 degrees!

Pretty much! Only a few spots open late in the day. Everyone is hungry to get on the course.

The new 9 (dancing bull, I believe?) had really fast greens last summer, and some really tricky undulation.
