The hypocrisy being some kind of projection or a “Gotcha! You used something made with plastic at some time in your life! You can now never say anything against this oil!”

Livewire posted a story today looking into the rezoning applications that have been denied over the last decade: https://livewirecalgary.com/2024/05/...ful-have-been/
Of 499 applications for rezoning to R-CG since 2014 only 17 have been rejected... with 7 of those eventually being resubmitted and ultimately approved. In the story, it says 17 denials and 6 resubmitted and approved, but one property was rejected twice before being approved on the third application. That means the real count is 16 properties denied, with 6 eventually being approved after resubmission.
For the remaining 10: 3 were eventually redeveloped into duplexes and 4 have neither reapplied for rezoning nor been otherwise redeveloped. The other 3 were denied within the last 18 months, so they could be getting reworked into new applications (or the owners are just waiting for blanket rezoning at this point).
Of the 4 that were not re-submitted: - For one, the applicant didn't appear at the application hearing
- One had an initial presentation, but there was no follow-up and the application was closed after 2 years of inactivity
- One was just asking for rezoning without submitting a plan for the property if it was approved
- One was just a request to build an above-garage suite in the backyard (which required rezoning because the house is a duplex)

Don’t you expect someone to practice what they preach? If you choose something as broad as “Just Stop Oil” and show up in anything but a hemp sack, it screams a total lack of awareness, so why should I listen to you. Guess where all that polyester you’re wearing came from, the sharpie marker, sign board, plastic pearls, etc. Does anyone give a crap what Leo has to say when he and his mega yacht palls cruise to a private island to preach “we” change our ways?
Do as I say, not as I do.

It’s basically the same tactic used against David Suzuki and Greta Thunberg. Literally no one can advocate for anything. This is why nothing can get advanced.

So I’m good holding a “Just Stop Beef” sign in one hand and a tomahawk Ribeye in the other?

Is this one of those "No real person exists that has ever done this but if you press me I'll invent one with an AI image generator" kind of scenarios

I dont know about Thunberg but Suzuki can get bent.
That guy is one of the biggest hypocrites there is, he's got the carbon footprint of like 1000 people and yet preaches austerity for everyone else?
He's no better than a TV Preacher begging for donations to charity while he gets on his private jet.

Thats why its ridiculous. "Just stop" is about as useful as the "War on Drugs"

And look how swimmingly that went.

Not really. Once you get cold you're just going to burn something else.
Slow and steady. This is a turtle race.

Recall petition update, with the bonus of a random sampling of some 369 of the names coming back 100% invalid.

When your entire society is based off of, essentially, one product, then it's going to be tough advocating for change without using those products.
"you don't like oil, well you just took a bus to this protest and it uses oil!"
Yes, because the we still choose to build ICE vehicles despite alternatives. Plus we live in a city zoned and constructed based 100% on the idea that everyone owns a ICE vehicle. We also don't fund public transportation and instead have everyone buy $30K plus vehicles instead.
Sound off against Leo for spouting off from his yacht, but to #### on some regular people rallying against fossil fuel use for using a plastic marker to make a sign is... a choice

Well...in fairness, they also have been using fossil fuels and benefiting from them for a very, very....VERY long time (they are very old) so focusing just on the markers and sign that day is being entirely disingenuous.
They've been benefiting from Oil for nearly a Century, but today everyone else has to 'Just Stop?' Nope. Not having it.
And secondly...they used a hammer and chisel to try and destroy the Magna Carta...which...is straight-up flat-out batcrap nuts.

Yeah I think for the protest to make sense it has to be against consumerism, rather than "Just stop oil" .
