I agree with Smith that Prentice is a good leader and politician but it is really disappointing to have the leader of the opposition fold up shop and join the governing party and let them governed unabashed and potentially without accountability.

What a pile of crap this is. I'm listening to the news conference now and I'm struggling to keep from barfing.

Sure, just cross the floor to the party you hammered before. Can't beat them so you may as well join them. Hugs and kisses all around. What alternative do we have now to the Conservatives? Pretty much nothing.

These people have no integrity. This is why I hate provincial and federal politics.

Anderson is my area MLA and his sister is in a private facebook group that I'm in. I won't say what she's said but she really should probably not speak for him.

And, I think I'm going to send him a pair of flip flops for xmas, to his constituency office.

From her, I mean. Right to the bitter end, she blasted them with bile. Then suddenly they're all besties, days later? WTFE.

To be the official opposition, you have to want to take down the premier?

Is anyone else as perturbed by that revelation?

No, to be the official opposition, you should want to enact and contribute to the best policy for albertans.

Yeah, that answer pretty much tells you everything you need to know about her. Also entirely explains her approach over her tenure as the opposition leader. Bring nothing of the value to the table, just do your best to tear down the other team.

Depressing.

I'm actually hopeful that the Wildrose can now rebuild and gain strength around a new leader and group of candidates. With Smith out of the way it will be interesting to see which direction the party goes. I don't think the WRP will lay down and die and I expect them to be much more diligent and focused in the future.

I'm most dissapointed with him, I never would have seen him as a big massive sellout.

I've seen Smith's type before, when things are going well they look good, sound tough, but when things go bad they wimp out, fold their cards and hide under the table.

I would hope that her constituents treat her with disdain in the next election, but its not likely to happen

I would expect that the fringe lunatics will gain control of the party and drive it into Christian Heritage Party territory.

That is a very poorly worded grain of truth, actually.

The role of the Official Opposition is to hold the government to task. Given a majority government has carte blanche to do what it likes, that effectively reduces the real world role of the opposition to trying to chop the government off at the knees.

They all do it, Smith was evidently just a little more blunt about it than one would think prudent.

At first, it felt like rumors, something that the PCs were trying to cook up to discredit the Wildrose... but wow, it's true... all of it is true!

lol this story is so ridiculous, you cant help but laugh...
WWE couldnt write a crazier storyline than this

I only wish that a door props open and in a cloud of smoke and fireworks, Alison Redford jumps in and chairshots Prentice in the face

I don't know. I mean "Shane Shekels" doesn't really have the same ring to it as "Dani Dollars" did. I hate to tell you, but that ship might have sailed.

I think Smith and Anderson crossing the floor is bizarre and ignorant to the end degree. This is an affront to all of their constituents that had them elected. I believe the right thing to do for all turncoats (not just the leaders) is to announce a resignation and for the Government to call a by-election. There should be no exceptions to this. They have been elected as WRA candidates and PC candidates have lost in those ridings. By crossing the floor they defeat the premises of a democratically approved elections process.
