The resulting potion restores up to 5 hearts (with improvements) so to keep it in line with the cost of a Golden Apple (8 Ingots + Apple), it needs to be a block.

Doesn't a Golden Apple restore 10 hearts? Though I guess the Apple is difficult (though Aegypticus got two with his magic underground tree trick the last game).

I never use them outside UHC so I cant say for sure.

That's a change specifically for UHC? Standard recipe according to the wiki is watermelon slice + 1 gold nugget?
Regardless, then danger in UHC of obtaining the ingredients is huge. If I happened across a chest containing watermelon seeds then maybe I'd chance the nether, but obtaining a blaze rod isn't a piece of cake either...

Just started to play around a bit, man I haven't played in a long time, lots of different stuff.
Just found an abandoned mine shaft not far from my starting area, man this is a total maze, but lots of resources.
