Heat win 4-0 in San Antonio
34 save shut out for Irving.
Kolanos - 2g 1a
Nemisz - 2a
Laing - 1g
Patterson - 1g
Wilson - 1a
Mikkelson - 1a
Walter - 1a
Desbien - 1a
Heat 11-4-1 now and sit atop the Conference with 23 points.
It also moves the Heat to 4-0-0 on the current 7 game road trip.
Next three games are big ones, as they face the Barons twice, and the Aeros once.....both those divisional opponents have 21 points apiece.
Heat are also 9-1-0 on the road this season.
Only 2-3-1 at home though so far.

What the hell happened to THE MAXWELL DEMON? I'm starting to suspect his play last year was boosted by shooting percentage. A player in their last year of junior should be dominant- Reinhart is starting to look "Eh." I'm not saying he needs to be ast SVEN level, but he should be putting up more points against WHL competition than what he currently is. A mild improvement in his last year of junior is virtually no improvement at all.

Not too worried about Reinhart's production yet. He might be a bit of a slow starter?
I remember last season he was well below point per game after 20-30 games and really lit it up in the last half.

Reinhart really doesn't have much of a supporting cast around him, which is why I would expect to see a marginal improvement. Really interested to see how Ferland pans out. Very impressive numbers.

The poster above seems to have been watching the Ice fairly regularly and gave a good analysis of the situation. I'll take his word for now. The blogger you posted seems to be just looking at stats.

The Finnish league started again after a break, and Markus Granlund, whose offense had dried up recently, was put on the same line with his brother and scored two nice goals.
Highlights here, don't know if it's visible in Canada, but let's assume it is. Number 11 in red, first and third goals. Beauty pass from Mikael on the third.

It is good seeing the guys on the farm put up some points. I remember tuning into a game half way or just past half way through the season club leader barely had 30 points if that.

Just looked at the stats for the heat this year. I noticed that Irving is 6th on the team in penalty minutes with 17. Thought that was a little odd.

He had a scrap awhile back.
Probably 2+5+10 in that situation.

The reinhart stat types have come and gone, hopefully he has that extra thing that is not measured by stats.
The Bartschi pace right now is the one that seems out of place through all my memories of prospect tracking. Maybe, just maybe the Flames have drafted an offensive dynamo. Have we ever? Since Loob? We have to be the worst track record for drafting stars.

I was going to say it's been 20 years since we've drafted a forward who has amounted to much but Stillman and I suppose Titov were successes in the early 90s. Since than Moss and Lombardi are maybe our best homegrown forwards. I still hope Backlund and Nemisz will come through but like all the rest, so far it's just promises.
We've done better with defencemen such as Phaneuf, Morris and maybe Gauthier and Lydman but overall I agree we've had terrible drafting.

So Leland Irving has won all the games for the Heat.
Any word on how Ortio is?
His stats don't look that great

I haven't seen much of Ortio, but it seems he needs some more practice at the speed and playing details of North American hockey. This was really obvious on the pre-season, where his positioning was pretty off.

I wonder why they don't send him to the ECHL for some games?

Maybe they feel staying with the Heat and learning from their coaches will benefit him more in the future as opposed to playing games in the ECHL.

Leland is going to play almost every single game this season. Ortio will likely get most of his icetime in relief. But that's fine. The path for a goalie is a slow one. If we want Irving to be an NHL goalie, he needs every start he can get.
Ortio has tons of time to get to know the travel, the game, different systems, etc. Irving is a good goalie to learn from by all appearances as well.

My theory has been that they want Irving to mentor him and maybe become friends with him. Creating a friendly atmosphere seems to be a pretty big priority for the Heat.

Quickly took a look at the junior leagues and Sven, from what I can see from looking at the top scorers, has the best points per game average at 2.30. 30 points in 13 games isn't to shabby at all.

Your and Beerfest's points are probably correct, but it still may be good to send him down for a couple games. But, I'm sure he'll get some action in the AHL, even with how well Leland Irving has been playing.
Goaltenders do seem to take longer to develop. I think Mikka was 26? when he joined the Flames, wasn't he?
