Yossi makes no sense for Arsenal with Gervinho, Walcott, and Arshavin all ready there (and Chamberlain)

Who could we afford? As I don't think we could afford an immediate replacement for Cesc, I was happy to settle for someone that can do a great job and a prospect we could develop into the next Cesc (e.g. Martin or Hazard). That being said, I am in no way calling for/condoning the signing of Yossi. Hell no!

Define afford though, we could probably afford just about anybody. I was hoping we could get Gotze but that looks like it will not materialize, same with Hazard. Why can't Wenger take a run at Sneijder?

As for a top signing, you got it in Per Mertesacker. Beyond that, its probably stop-gap time.

It seems Sneijder was haggling with United for months, but everything broke down because he wants a TON of cash. And by a ton of cash its reported that he was asking north of Wayne Rooney money, very north.

And thats taking into consideration that Rooney reportedly earns £250,000/wk.

So, if United arent handing out that kind of cash, I dont think Arsenal would either.

Per Mertisacker is going to get crushed in the PL

great international, but he can not play a high line, and Arsenal only play a high line

I think hes more versatile than you're giving him credit for. Its sad to see a player you respect stoop so low as to play for Arsenal.

It's not that he's not versatile, it's that he's incredibly slow

Vermaelan is quick so it will offset, but Arsenal under Wenger have always needed quick CB's because of the high line.

Villas-Boas is having the same problem now at Chelsea with Terry, which will be helped when Luiz comes back

You can get away with someone slow when they are with a very good CB partner who ha pace and I think once Vermaelan gets injured that Mertesacker is going to be in trouble

Bendtner to Sunderland on a year long loan

I think he could get 15-20 goals there, he needs to play every game

Liverpool have succesfully sold, loaned or punted:

- Joe Cole
- Christian Poulsen
- David N'Gog
- Alberto Aquilani

Thats a fairly trimmed squad. Lightened the load by 3 midfielders and a dead weight. Owen Coyle has his work cut out for him with that one.

As far as transfers are concerned. The talk about Bellamy is interesting, but I dont see it serving any real purpose. Hes not going to get much time playing at Anfield either. He'd be free I guess.

And I dont really want Yossi back, loved him in Red, but hes tainted with Chelsea grime now. He and Torres both thought the grass was greener on the blue side of the fence, now they can have it.

Besides, hes older, hes had a severe injury, and I just dont really see where he would slot into the current squad.

Arsenal
His Wiki already says Arsenal.

You sure Spurs dont want him to shore up that midfield? Hes very similar in style to VdV, might be an option while hes out.

And the Daily Mail....

Quote:
It wouldn't be transfer deadline day without an interview with Harry Redknapp in his car, courtesy of Sky Sports.

He immediately pours cold water on moves for Kaka and Gary Cahill, saying they have tried to get a big signing but haven't quite managed it.

In other news is he confirms Sebastien Bassong's move to QPR is off.

Remember that secret Spurs transfer I was mentioning?

The rumour mill has gone into overdrive that it is Real Madrid's Kaka.

That would be nothing short of unbelievable. If that happens I will run out this office and dance down the road in just a spinning bow tie and a pair of socks.

Speaking of shoring up that shaky midfield....

They do interview the ol' Wheeler Dealer in his car rather often....

midfield isn't really shaky, just injured

modric/parker/huddlestone/sandro

don't think anyone can call that shaky

Kaka was never gonna happen, but him leaving doesn't mean that deals are done, Levy does the deals

He also said Chelsea offered 40m for Modric and Levy told them to love off

I think Bellamy would be a great signing. He is extremely quick and will serve as a back-up at both the striker and the wing positions. He knows the EPL and he really wants to be back in Liverpool, despite knowing that he will not be a starter. Great piece of business IMO (if we get him).

Sandro and Parker have yet to play a game and Huddlestone has never impressed me, it all depends on how motivated Modric is, he seems like he might sulk this out until January.

If all 4 of those guys are firing then its a stable midfield, not great but still in the upper half of the table.

A small update on Spurs. The club rejected a £40million offer from Chelsea for Luka Modric.

Madness, that would have been a fantastic deal for the north London club.

I agree, at this point Spurs are just being stubborn and holding onto him because they said they would. I'd have taken £40M for the sulky holdout in a heartbeat.

Its similar to when Torres was sold, he was pouty and sulking and just bringing the team down so they sold him and said good riddance, spent the money on players who wanted to be there and to play.

It'd be a much better piece of business to jettison Modric and use the cash to more than adequately replace him.

upper half?

It's top 3 with city and united, Chelsea would be there with Essien, Arsenal would be there with Fabregas

I don't think anyone else is even close to those 5 either way
