Middle of the draft somewhere?
Was ranked 52nd for NA skaters by Central Scouting, up from 70th at mid-term.

I wonder if the Flames may go after Dillon Dube's linemate Kole Lind. Decent sized RW with a good enough shot and decent offensive instincts. Might be a slight reach at 17, but is rated in the 20's in a bunch of rankings.

Suzuki and Yamamoto. The year of the Japanese last names.
This is the first draft in a while where I know hardly any of the 1st round prospects. Hope we take a big bodied talented winger who can skate and has a great shot.

Is the Russian factor enough to scare people off of Klim Kostin? With the perceived lack of high end talent in this draft is it worth taking a boom or bust kind of Prospect? Or is it better to stick with a sure fire thing like Foote? I personally like the idea of the highly skilled big bodied Russian, but he already chose to stay in Russia once, so maybe not worth a first round pick when it's our only pick in the top 90.

Who cares about his size if he's never finished a check. Projects as a PP specialist at best. Low compete level.

Owen Tippett fits the bill perfectly, Big,excellent skater and probably possesses the best shot in the draft. Bit of a puck hog but he loves big games and wants the puck in those games.
Button has him at 20 but I doubt he lasts that long, Tre needs to work some magic at the draft and move up a few spots for this kid.
Winnipeg apparently really likes him

Something about this kid screams Pavel Brendl. Have to be weary about players that have more G than A. Might be a beneficiary of good teammates which could skew stats. Every case is different but hope scouts are doing due diligence on this player.

I've been hearing Virtanen too. No toolbox. I haven't watched him play though.

I know.
This draft just really sucks. At least in 2012, there was a Jankowski type guy. This year, it's just a lot of meh.
I'd probably go with Poehling or Kostin if available at 17. Doubt either will be there though.

I will be just fine taking Callan Foote at 17 if he is still available, 6'3" 213lbs NHL ready size and high Hockey IQ. Fill the big RW through trade.

Yeap.
I'm still hoping deep down that Liljegren takes a tumble on draft day and we snap him up at 16/17, but Foote would be awesome too.

My preference would be to use the pick and pick up an established youngish NHL player with it.
It'll be interesting to see what shakes out this year.

No, there are a lot of great prospects, no Matthews or Eichel caliber players, but that's of no concern for us.

I get people think the Flames should trade the pick because "this draft sucks" but what team is going to give up the kind of player the flames want for a pick in a "draft that sucks"
I don't think this draft will suck, I just don't think it has the top end talent of previous drafts. Luckily the Flames don't have a top pick and IMO the mid round picks don't seem much different than mid round picks in other drafts.
Tippet, Foote or Hague would be the guys I'd target

Exactly. If a mid-1st rounder this year is no better than a 2nd rounder most years, then that's the trade value it will have - a 2nd rounder.
Frankly, I don't think this team is at the stage where it should be routinely trading away picks. We still need to keep a pipeline of NHLers coming into the roster.

If you could swing a deal to get a 2nd line forward under the age of 28 with the 1st, that would be perfect.
My ideal target would be Gustav Nyquist from Detroit. Relatively cheap contract at a shade under 5 million. Would be a good fit on the first line with Gaudreau and Monahan. The Wings are looking to rebuild after having their worst season in 20+ years and are going to be in cap hell for a while as they have a lot of $ tied up in players that are either not very good or are past their prime.

Charlie Coyle (RW/C - 25 - Right shot) - Potential cap issues with Minny needing to re-sign Nino and Granlund, plus their season ended disappointingly so maybe you catch them wanting to make a change
Brendan Gallagher (RW - 24 - Right shot) - See Minny above, potential re-shuffle of deck chairs due to early exit
Vincent Trocheck (C/RW - 23 - Right shot) - Maybe FLA wants to shake things up a bit
Nick Bjugstad (C - 24 - Right shot) - Same as Trocheck
Reilly Smith (RW - 26 - Left shot) - Same as Trocheck/Bjugstad
Tyler Johnson (C - 26 - Right shot) - Potentially moved for cap reasons
Those are players I'd be interested in if the main piece going back was our 1st this year. All young and under team control for a minimum of 3 years, and all would instantly improve our top line if you put them on Mony/Johnny's RW.
