if there are traffic lights in the parking lot, you are probably at a power centre

So that makes the Sage Hill center one I'm guessing? It's lightyears ahead of Beacon Hill for usability though

Beacon Hill doesn’t have traffic lights except at the exits back onto Sarcee.

Beacon Hill's parking lot is probably the worst designed one I've ever seen in terms of usability, especially the parking lot going into the middle section (where Edo / Samosa Factory, etc are). Who thought it'd be a good idea to put a useless sundial in the middle of a parking lot?

My parents live in Sherwood and we go there alot, but there is a secret escape exit out of that hell hole!
Beacon is my closest Costco but i haven't been there in over a year. I'd rather drive to Balzac and goto that one first.

Beacon Hill was doomed from the start. Effectively bordering the Stoney/Sarcee interchange on two sides, and a giant hill on the other, access was always going to be terrible. Hindsight is 20/20, but some foresight would've been better.
Sage Hill on the other hand has lots of access points on all sides and some handy little roundabouts that will help even more as traffic increases. The two areas are like night and day. Shame about the London Drugs closing though.

Oh yeah the Edmonton Trail Taco Bell/KFC just turned into a pure KFC sometime during Covid.
What happened to Taco Bells and Arbys?

They made that change after they had a fire there.
Not sure why - but that's when it happened.

The one on Edmonton Trail had a fire the same week the DQ on Centre Street burned down. It apparently wasn't as badly damaged, so they were able to fix it without tearing it down. It reopened a few months ago as a KFC only -- but they added a small seating area (which has been closed since it opened). I guess that was the trade-off.

Infinitely.

A fair compromise would be for that Superstore to have a live parrot.
RIP Sunnyside.

The seating (for 8 total) in that KFC has reopened with stage 2.

I'm still worried about the Bownesian Grocery's long term future with Save-On and Loblaws on their turf, but it's good to see they have a plan for this:
Quote:
We are doing better, definitely without a doubt. We wouldn’t be here without all of you. We know that for certain. But… and there is still a but and they both start with the letter ‘S’, we have 2 large corporate grocery stores opening on our door step. This is still a big deal to us. This is a feeling all small business owners feel when a “big box corporate” starts creeping into their community. We always want there to be a little grocer in the heart of Bowness and we have been taking steps and making changes to keep that possible.
Our plans have been a couple years in the making. The first big step was securing an additional space for us in the new Calgary Farmers Market West being built in the new Greenbriar community. An incredibly exciting opportunity to expand our presence in the community and meet new customers. We are excited to get going just as soon as the market is ready. Covid has caused some delays for the Market but we eagerly await this new expansion.
The second big step we took was hiring some health and wellness experts and opening our own wellness section in our store to meet the needs of our customers. Jessica and Julia have built this section with love. They hand picked every item in it and are there 7 days a week to offer you help, tips and tricks and wellness consultations. If we don’t have our health, what do we have? Especially this year. It has been an excellent addition to the store and Jessica and Julia have been 2 amazing additions to our team. We hope you pop into their section the next time you’re in and say hello. The third big and ongoing step is a transition in our store to stocking more local and specialty items. We have so much good local stuff from right here in Bowness and Calgary and many from Alberta and Canada. From Abbey’s Ice Cream, to Bowness Soapworks, VDG Salami to Kingdom Coffee and too many more to mention, we carry a beautiful collection of locally made goods, which we think always contain a little more love.

Calgary is getting a Decathlon store at Southcentre. I shopped at a few in Europe and they were like Sportchek on steroids. Could be a good alternative to MEC and Sportchek.
Quote:
Filling nearly 70,000 square feet at Southcentre Mall, Decathalon will be the very first of its kind in Western Canada featuring both international and local brands of everything from jerseys, and tape to sticks, gloves and balls.
