They could have gone Orange Sky but I guess that colour gets too many people’s underwear twisted in this city.

I know it's one word, but the inclusion of "blue" in the slogan bugs me.

The City of Calgary flag and brand is red. The Flames are red, the Stamps are red, the Cavalry is red, the buses are red, the LRT is red. We perhaps go too far with it, but if any city is tied to a color, it's Calgary with red.

Blue is Edmonton, blue is Toronto, blue is BC. Blue is not Calgary.

Maybe they couldn't work a red into the sky theme...but then perhaps it's not the right theme.

Same thoughts. Blue doesn't fit the Calgary identity.

Maybe they should try an over all rebrand of the city?

Calgary - Heart of the Blue West

Calgary - It’s Bluetiful

Calgary - Don’t like the weather? Wait Blue Minutes

Agreed.

Besides, during the summer we typically do have Red Skies due to the fires.

Maybe we could be the city of the 'Red Dawn?'

Open up some new trading partners ya know?

I believe the "blue sky" is not just literal but about blue-sky thinking i.e. creative, innovative thinking, as well.

Most people will only know it by the literal meaning because they don't know the business/ideas meaning behind the term. Jargon like blue sky, greenfield, brownfield, etc don't resonate with people.

I'm sure all of those hearings and letters will be positive and not a shred of NIMBYism in them.

I’d triage the thing and have one representative for each specific complaint.

“Is your comment about parking? Yes? Okay, thanks, we got you covered”.

That should whittle it down to like 10 people.

*not actual slogan.

At least a few of those 10 are going to be different versions of “(Insert type of person based on economic status or culture) will ruin our neighbourhood!”

Being in a creative field professionally, I've undertaken several of these types of branding/slogan projects...so I understand that these slogans are meant to go beyond the literal. But sometimes you get so lost in the smart metaphors and catchy secondary meanings, that you gloss over the obvious stuff. There can be a thousand clever reasons to use that word, but in a city where everything official has always been red, having "blue" in a slogan for Calgary just feels off.

Woah there, let's not get too carried away. Plenty is overstating it. It's "a number of things to do in Okotoks"

Ehhhhhh it’s still kind of reaching.

How about just, “There *are* things to do in Okotoks”.
