There are still teams that are happy to trade for Hanifin as a rental, and those packages will look good too. I am not overly worried about Hanifin focusing on Tampa (although rumours abound that there are a few other teams still in it?) since if it is pennies on the dollar, Conroy can just flip Hanifin to whatever contender needs a top 4.
The 2006 1st from Tampa is the nugget here. Same as from Boston. Two teams with limited assets because they are still trying to cling onto being a contender. This can only last so long.

Whether there has been behind the scenes shenanigans by Hanifins camp or not. There has been enough chatter about it across platforms that most people likely assume his camp screwed the Flames. So at this point, whether it’s true or not, likely makes little difference vs accepted opinion.

I still don’t see how he screwed the Flames. If they didn’t want to trade him as a pure rental they should have trade him last deadline

I believe the normal way those clauses are written is that the list is supplied at the start of each contract year, July 1. I don't know about Hanifin's contract specifically.

Doesn't matter. The asset is equally good for the team... time doesn't matter. People just want the now

I am told the 8 no trade teams include all Canadian teams.
That leaves a lot of teams open, without his consent.

It's also been reported that Hanifin doesn't want to be a rental. Basically they are controlling the process telling teams we won't sign there and we don't want to play there as a rental.
So no this is not good for the Flames or just business as usual. This is above and beyond. Steinberg confirms he has heard the same. Both agree that this is beyond a point where Conroy is trying to do right by Hanifin. Frank used the terms "Gloves are off"
|
Conroy’s had his work cut out for him that’s for sure. I think we need to judge his whole body of work through this transition, when all is said and done, as opposed to any individual transaction.
Also this is complete bull#### and shouldn’t be allowed to happen.

Send him to Carolina half retained for an extended Pesce. I was hearing on Kipreos’ show that Pesce is UFA and they may not sign him/keep him as their own rental. Get Hanifin as a half price rental and use the cap space to add else where for the playoffs if that’s the plan.

If I played in the NHL and had the choice via an NTC, I wouldn't want to play anywhere in Canada but here...maybe for different reasons then Hanifin but fact would remain, and I don't hate Canada.

So 6 Canadian teams as Calgary wouldn't be included as he signed the contract with them plus 2 American teams? I wonder which 2?

Edmonton Kentucky, just in case they ever get a team.
Edit: And Nashville, apparently Edmonton's sister city.
