Really good team, interesting to see what changes they make this summer.
They need a goalie

Yeah that's going to be really interesting given Brind'Amour's contract expires and Dundon is a bit of a wild card. It's clear they have a team good enough to dominate in the regular season but maybe lacks the elite talent to go deep into the playoffs. I don't see any quick fixes for them but it looks like they may have enough money off their books next offseason to take a run at Draisaitl.

Draisaitl would help their atrocious powerplay immensely, as much as I despise the guy.

The Hurricanes much like the Flames keep possession and get shot volume, but they aren't dangerous or have that game breaker.

This style of play doesn't seem to work in the playoffs. You still need to be able to score goals, and when you're a team that likes to fire shots from the outside that is what teams want you to do in the playoffs.

Rangers had much less zone time and shots, yet had 1 more inner slot chance.

Hurricanes will be always be the fancy stat darlings.

^ Rangers had a gamebreaker back in the lineup and boy did it show. That was the difference.

They got outscored by 1 goal in 6 games, against the best team during the regular season. A lot of it is just luck. Like that Skjei “penalty” on Trocheck in overtime.

That's what that game breaker does. He scores that extra goal, and doesn't shoot it from the half wall to pump up the shot volume stats.

Weird thing is, no one would really call Kreider a gamebreaker until after he turned 30. Good player, certainly. But his best two regular seasons and best three PO performances have been since he turned 30.
