Kind of like arguing about neighborhoods in Edmonton. If you have to live there, I suppose you have to choose somewhere.
I'm not a huge Florida fan, but the tax is incredibly low. And some nice houses by the water (if you don't mind your house most likely being under water in 15 years).

They were predicting that would happen in 15 years, 30 years ago. Those houses are still above water.

Scott Meyer, author of the webcomic (Basic Instructions), moved from inland Washington state to Florida some years back. He said he preferred Florida. In both places, half the time the weather is too lousy to go outside, but at least when you get lousy weather in Florida, there's no snow on the roads.

I can get behind that reasoning.

A bunch were under water in 2023.

Flooding happens. They were not permanently below sea level, which is what everyone was predicting.

As others have stated, I really want the Flames to come out of the Hanifin/Markstrom deals with Mercer and Lundell.

Would be so huge to add some already NHL C's to that U23 player pool.

We have some notable goalies
We have some notable offensive D
We have some notable defensive D
We have some solid wingers
We have some solid depth forwards

Pretty much SQUAT for notable centers in there.

Ya it's not like they have full insurance companies pulling out of the state because they see what is coming, that would be a major red flag.

Until the flooding in 15 or 30 years or whatever, you can just have parts of your house blow down during Hurricane season every year.

And like they showed in Dexter, you’ll walk around sweating the rest of the time.

To each their own obviously.

Insurance companies are pulling out because of something that isn't an insurable risk anywhere? Riiiiiight.

If you still believe the predictions of imminent catastrophe, that's on you. The global rise in sea level is measured in millimetres per year.

A risk you take on a young, impressive looking centreman.
Not to mention, look at the difference in his opportunities. Aho, Jarvis, JK, and Necas all sit-in front of you.

Storm damage is absolutely covered by insurance, and flooding even if not covered itself is a result of the same storms. And a symptom of climate change is these storms become more frequent and more powerful as global temperature rises as well as sea levels driving them further inland. Not to mention Florida's destruction of critical ecosystems that will draw these storms further inland as they continue to be converted to commercial land.

The unpredictability, severity and resulting litigation that comes with providing coverage is what is driving insurance companies out but its not hard to see how it is all connected.

If you don't want to see the writing on the wall that's on you, ignorance is bliss after all.

That being said, being a rich athlete in Florida seems dope as hell and I get the appeal.

Teams gearing up for playoff runs - like Florida and Tampa - almost never move a useful roster player at the deadline. They’re looking to add, not subtract. I’d be very surprised if Lundell came back. It will be futures.

Except that storms have NOT been becoming more frequent or more powerful.

I've been following this for decades. There's an inverse correlation between average temperature and the prevalence of hurricanes and tropical storms. A 2023 study published in Nature calls this correlation ‘robust’:

Declining tropical cyclone frequency under global warming

The mechanism behind this change is quite well understood.

EDIT: Storm damage has been increasing, despite the decreasing number of storms, due principally to the skyrocketing number of idiots who build McMansions in hurricane country and expect their insurance to bail them out. My sympathy for such people is sharply limited.
