Curious as to what Meurelo's options are if he wins the auction but can't get the entertainment district built.

Is the sale of the land nonbinding if he can't get the permits or financing? Or is he stuck with the land?

Probably a huge factor in if he actually puts a bid on June 27.

I still don't think it even gets that far. From what I am hearing the team is being shopped pretty heavily right now.

Which is kind of my point. He is exploring the sale because he isn't confident that the arena will actually be built and putting in a bid means he will be stuck with the land

I think it’s an inevitability that Arizona is going to have to move. I mean they play in a 5000 seat arena and they can’t even fill it.

At some point Bettman is going to have to face reality. They really are an embarrassment. I don’t mean the coaches and players ect. But the owner.

Just a totally normal thing for a person who doesn't own an NHL team to do...

Feels like they're breaking all the unwritten rules the NHL has about franchise acquisitions.

Didn't True North keep their mouths shut until the day it was announced they were moving? Just seems like a lot of chatter from Utah.

That said I totally think the Coyotes are moving, regardless.

Be very shocked if the guy is doing this without the NHL onboard. He's an NBA owner, he knows the game.

With this coming out today, it makes me think we might see an announcement before the end of the season. The Coyotes are on the road now until their final home game next Thursday. If they announce the move this week, it would give them a chance to say goodbye to their too few loyal fans in their final game.

I think that guy just says screw it and skips the last game. I know if I had Flames tickets and they announced a move I wouldn't go to the last game out of spite.

Going by what is said on 32 thoughts, every tidbit released by Ryan Smith (and Anson Carter) is choreographed and permissioned by the league.

I would love to read the agreement when Muruelo purchased the team.

I'm guessing upon a sale he is allowed to recoup his original purchase price plus losses incurred but no gains until the league/owners get a substantial recoupment for at least some of the money they put into that team over the years.

And I'm guessing there is a provision where the league is allowed to take back the team at a set price if certain milestones aren't met by certain dates (one of which is going to be this arena).

This is what I felt would happen, a thrashers to Winnipeg style move that was whispered about and then suddenly it was happening when everyone thought it was too late for the upcoming season.

Yeah, the timing of this makes me think they had a gag order in place until 9:00am MT on April 8.

Will they be Utah like the Jazz or be called Salt Lake City?

I’d bet on it being Utah from what I’ve heard.

Oh ok makes sense.

Looks like they just kept the Jazz name when the moved the team to Utah for the NBA. Jazz has nothing to do with Utah.

The Utah Coyotes for a season.
