The plot thickens. The fitness rumors didn't seem like enough.
Difficult to imagine what he could have done at a border crossing to justify this.
Even then, there is a legal process to follow before a contract termination would become warranted.

off ice incident at boarder...I would hesitate to say drugs. Enough that he could probably be dinged with trafficking. or tried to bring a kinder surprise into the states.

In Tiger Williams' book, he describes a border crossing experience with Leafs scout Turk Broda - I think they were crossing into Minnesota and Tiger saw a dead squirrel or sparrow on top of a trash can. He looked at the border guard and said, "I see you haven't had your breakfast yet"
Long story short, the border guard went nuts and pulled everything out of the car, kept them at the border crossing for over 3 hours.

Sounds like the Richards to Calgary/Edmonton rumors before this were true. In addition to ESPN/Katie Strang reporting that Lombardi told both Treviling and Chiarelli about the incident and ended discussions as a result, someone just mentioned on the Kings board right before the commercial break that Lombardi went over to both the Calgary and Edmonton tables and talked to those two Gm's one after another. I re-watched it and that's the case.

Richards does live on Lake of the Woods in the offseason, which is located in both Canada and the USA. I don't have any info, but it could be a boating-related border incident

I hope the NHLPA gets this overturned and then them, the NHL, whoever, ALL throw the book at the Kings. They need to suffocate on that contract. So sick of teams getting out of these types of deals after reaping the rewards of them.

That's what I mean. A team shouldn't be allowed to have different standards for different players re: contracts. What if we had Brad Richards on a 10 year $100 million dollar deal and Brodie on his current deal and they both get speeding tickets. The the shouldn't be allowed to void Richards contract to improve their salary cap situation and not Brodie's. I mean, this is all a terrible scenario using speeding tickets but when it comes to bad contracts that management negotiated and signed, they shouldn't be allowed to just wait and spy on the player until the he does something that can be deemed "against team policies" and void the contract. You $#%! your pants, you sit in it. If DUI is a contract-voidable offense for someone like Paul Byron it should automatically be voidable for someone like Sidney Crosby too. But have to wait and see what Mike Richards actually did.
